TURLOCK — With another four-goal match, the 10th ranked Warriors extended their winning streak to seven as Cal State Stanislaus handled Humboldt State, 4-0, on Sunday.
Three first half scores by freshmen
Nicole Bare,
Maecie Ireland and
Jordan Moineau put the Warriors up front early.
Karenee Demery added the fourth score in the second half as Cal State Stanislaus improved to 9-1 on the season.
It is the fourth time the Warriors scored four goals during the winning streak. They have now out-scored opponents 20-4 with four shutouts in those seven contests. Cal State Stanislaus has now recorded six shutouts this season.
"It was a total team effort. Our starters played well and our bench was fantastic. To get three goals from our substitutes shows the depth on our team," head coach
Gabriel Bolton said.
Bare had a coming out party on Sunday. The freshman from Santa Cruz scored her first collegiate goal and assisted on two other scores in the first half. Bare's goal came at 21:40 after an
Emily Relles throw-in to
Katelyn Nebesnick. Nebesnick touched it back to Relles who crossed into the box over defenders and HSU goalkeeper Kelly Lukas to find Bare.
Ireland, who is from Turlock, netted her first goal as a Warrior in the 33rd minute. After picking up a pass from Bare, Ireland dribbled into the zone uncontested and knocked it off a diving HSU keeper Lukas by the near post.
Just before the end of the half, at 44:55, Moineau made it 3-0 after getting around a defender for a point-blank shot.
Tina Benson and Bare were credited with the assists. Moineau, who is from Madera, now has two goals this season.
"This has been an outstanding freshman class from the very beginning. By this point in the season we don't really consider them freshmen anymore. They are a very talented group," added Bolton.
Demery finished off the scoring with a nice goal in the 50th minute from a great cross by
Bernie Bettencourt to the far post where Demery was streaking for the touch under HSU's second goalkeeper Amber Woolcock.
"Our possession was exceptional, we finished some terrific goals, and our defending was outstanding," Bolton said.
The Warrior defense held the Lumberjacks to just two shots and one on goal. In two games this weekend, the backline has only allowed six shots and three on goal.
The seven-match winning streak and the 9-1 start is the program's best since 2005 when that team started 10-1-1 with a nine-game win-streak.
