Fett attacks new role with awesome start: Senior
Andrea Fett was a force during opening weekend as she led the team in kills and hitting percentage. In four matches, Fett amassed 62 kills with a 3.65 kills per set average. She had 15 kills twice and 16 kills in the other two contests.
Lets not forget about Marsh: Jennifer Marsh rotates into the matches and smashes the balls as well. During the tournament, the senior put away 49 and averaged nearly three kills per set. She also blocked eight shots. Marsh has a high of 17 kills in the win over host Point Loma Nazarene.
Fresh start for new setter: Freshman setter
Kendal Muñoz had a nice all around week, especially at setting and serving. Munoz tallied 162 assists for an impressive 9.53 assists per set. In the win over Point Loma Nazarene, Munoz also had six service aces including the three straight to aced the victory for the Warriors.
Top stuffer: Melissa Bishop is back in top form. After recovering from a season-ending ACL injury midway through the last season, the senior middle is once again controlling the net play. Bishop recorded a total of 16 total blocks with three solos in the first four matches for a 0.94 average.
Return to the Spike: After a year break from participating in the Seawolf Spike (Sonoma State did not host the event in 2011 due to a trip to Hawaii), the Warriors are back in Rohnert Park for the annual event. Cal State Stanislaus has played in the Seawolf Spike since the tournament's inception in 2006. Stanislaus is 9-11 overall. The Warriors went 2-2 in each of the last three trips (2008, 2009, 2010).
Lianne Vicchio, now an assist coach, was an All-Tournament selection in 2008 and 2010.
About the Opponents: Three of the four teams the Warriors will face are from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. No. 18 Western Washington is 4-0 after winning the tournament at Western Oregon. Both Central Washington (3-1) and Seattle Pacific (2-2) also received consideration in the latest AVCA Coaches Top 25 poll. Central Washington went 3-1 at the Grand Canyon tournament in Phoenix including an upset win over then-No. 13 Metro State. Seattle Pacific went 2-2 in Honolulu (including a loss to Sonoma State). Dominican opened at the Humboldt State Tournament and went 1-2 with a win over the host Lumberjacks. Dominican lost to Chico State and Holy Names.
