Box Score SAN BERNARDINO -- Head coach
Larry Reynolds knows how to win in San Bernardino. Friday night, the Warriors won at Coussoulis Arena for the first time as Cal State Stanislaus upset No. 15 Cal State San Bernardino, 76-60.
The win is the first for Cal State Stanislaus in San Bernardino during California Collegiate Athletic Association play in 15 tries.
However, it certainly wasn't the first victory in that building for Reynolds, who coached at CSUSB from 1997 to 2002 when he went 110-35 with three CCAA titles.
The Warriors now has won both CCAA games on the road and were 0-5 at home during conference play. They are in a stretch of the schedule where they have to play eight out of 10 games on the road.
Marcus Walters continue his hot streak with 26 points on 9 of 13 shooting to lead Cal State Stanislaus, which snapped a three-game skid to improve to 5-6 overall and 2-5 in the CCAA. Walters, who also made four three-pointers, has now scored 66 points in the last three games.
Walters scored 20 points last Friday against San Francisco State and 26 versus Sonoma State the following night.
Nick Hodge posted career highs with 18 points and 11 rebounds for his first double-double.
Ray Mitchell scored 14 and West Bartole also grabbed 11 rebounds to contribute.
Friday night, it was the Coyotes having trouble with their shots as CSUSB finished with a 33.9 percent from the floor. On the other side of the court, the Warriors shot at a 51.7 percent clip, including 8 of 14 from beyond the arch. Stanislaus also out-rebounded San Bernardino, 41-36.
The Warriors used a 7-0 run to end the first half to lead 39-26 at the break. But CSUSB mounded a comeback after intermission and cut the lead to six points five minutes into the second half.
However Walters stayed hot and his three-pointer at 10:58 gave back the Warriors their double-digit lead for good.
Cal State San Bernardino entered the week in first place in the CCAA. The Coyotes are now 8-2 overall and 6-1 in the CCAA.
