Box Score CARSON — The Warriors could not recover from a frigid first half as their second half rally came up short while Cal State Dominguez held on to win 65-55 inside Torodome Friday night.
Cal State Stanislaus snapped a two-game winning streak and fell to 6-7 overall and 3-6 in California Collegiate Athletic Association. The Warriors had won five straight games away from home.
Taylor Bell came off the bench to led the Warriors in scoring with 12 points.
Sam Marcus and
Marcus Walters each chipped in eight.
The Warriors started the game 1 for 11 from the floor shooting en route to a 13.8 field goal percentage in the opening half. By the time the Warriors made their second shot -- an
Amarpreet Randhawa 3-pointer -- it was 17-6.
Cal State Dominguez Hills (9-7, 5-4 CCAA) had started the game with 11 unanswered points before a
Wes Bartole three-pointer. In fact, the first three (of the four total) Stanislaus first-half buckets were three-pointers.
But, Stanislaus turned a 25-point, 36-11, halftime deficit, into a much more competitive game in the second half. The Warriors went on a 12-2 run to start the second half to make it a 38-23 game. Stanislaus got as close as 10-points, at 60-50, when
Zeke DeBlase nailed a trey with 1:27 left to go.
However, Pierson Williams scored five points down the stretch to help CSUDH hold off the Warriors. Williams finished with a game-high 17 points, including five three-pointers.
The Warriors shot 43.8 percent in the second half to end the game with an overall field goal percentage of 29.5. They were also 10 for 31 from beyond the arch as opposed to CSUDH's more efficient 11 of 17.
Cal State Stanislaus will take on Cal State L.A. on Saturday in the Eagles' Nest. Tipoff is at about 7:30 p.m.
