Getting Back on Track
With 2012 and a bad loss to Chico State behind them the Warriors are looking to get back on track this week with a pair of CCAA games. They are hoping to end a three-game skid at home against conference opponents. The Warriors lost those three games by an average margin of 21 points a game.
Mitchell Streaking
Ray Mitchell has been the hottest Warriors lately as he has turned in three straight double-digit scoring games. Mitchell, who posted two double-doubles at the Coyotes Holiday Classic, had 13 points as the only Stanislaus player to score more than eight last Saturday. In the last three games, Mitchell averaged 14 points and 7.7 rebounds.
Road Warriors, so Far
Cal State Stanislaus has actually been better on the road (3-1) than it is at home (1-3) this season. These numbers are in contrast of historical data as the Warriors are traditionally stronger at home. Since 1998, the Warriors are 97-90 at home and 54-132 on the road.
Offense Stalled
After hitting the century mark, and tallied 204 points in their two previous games, the Warriors stalled on offense last Saturday against Chico State. The Warriors scored just 48 points and shot a cool 31 percent in the 38-point loss to the Wildcats to end 2012. Cal State Stanislaus had shot 51 percent in two wins at the Coyotes Holiday Classic, Dec. 17-18.
Feasting on Non-Conference Foes
The Warriors punished their non-conference opponents in four contests as they outscored them 92 to 65.5. They also out-rebounded the non-CCAA teams 45.5 to 32.2 per game while shooting at a 51.2 percent clip (42.7 from three-point line).
A Different Story During CCAA Play
In four CCAA games, the Warriors have been outscored 71.2 to 56. They have been out-rebounded 37.2 to 28.8 per game and were held to 37.7 percent shooting. CCAA teams shot 49.1 percent against the Warriors. Stanislaus is 10th in scoring at 56.0 points per game during CCAA play (as opposed to 74.0 points per game overall for third in all games).
Leading Assist Sam
Sam Marcus now leads all CCAA players in assists with 4.5 per game. Marcus has 36 assists through eight games after dishing six last Saturday. In his last three games, he averaged 7.7 assists. Marcus is also among the top 10 in the conference in assists to turnover ratio at 2.6 (36 assists to 14 turnovers).
Oh, Ouch
Last Saturday's 38-point loss to Chico State was not only the biggest margin of defeat this season , but also one of the worse games in recent history. Aside from a 37-point loss to Division I Pacific in 2010, the previous worse was a 41-point set-back to Sonoma State on Jan. 9, 2009.
