CARSON — Playing inside the StubHub Center, the 7th ranked Cal State Stanislaus women's soccer team scored early and blew past host Cal State Dominguez Hills, 4-0, Friday afternoon.
Karenee Demery scored twice early to lead the Warriors as they improve to 10-0-1 overall and 8-0-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The Warriors continue their best program start after 11 games. The 2012 team was 10-1 at this point last season.
Sabrina Williamson scored in the second half and Stanislaus also got help from the Toros on an own goal for the final count.
"We came out with tremendous energy and enthusiasm which resulted in some early goals. From there we started to play some great possession," head coach Gabriel Bolton said.
Cal State Dominguez Hills (4-6-1, 3-5-1 CCAA) helped the Warriors on an own goal in the 17th minute to make it 3-0.
Way before that goal, Demery got Warriors on the board early with scores at 1:06 and 4:16 for her 13th and 14th of the season. It was Demery's third straight two-goal match.
At 16:55, the Toros failed to clear a Emily Relles corner kick, instead knocking in the own goal.
Stanislaus needed just 2:42 into the second half to make it 3-0 when Williamson scored on a Demery assist.
"Sabrina scored an absolute brilliant goal from some great 1v1 attacking by Karenee. To back heel the ball in like that is just world class," commented Bolton.
The Warriors had not won in Carson, going 0-8, prior to the 2011 season. They have now won two straight on the campus of Cal State Dominguez Hills. Two seasons ago they beat the 14th ranked Toros at Unversity Stadium. Friday's match was at the adjacent StubHub Center, home of the L.A. Galaxy and Chivas U.S.A.
"Playing inside the StubHub Center and winning was a great experience. We played some great soccer in a terrific environment," added Bolton.
The Warriors will travel to Cal State L.A. to face the Golden Eagles on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
