Box Score HAYWARD —
Karenee Demery scored two more goals as No. 7 Cal State Stanislaus beat Cal State East Bay, 2-1, Friday evening, on the road.
Demery, now with 18 goals on the season, is just one score shy of tying her own school record for goals in a season — a feat she established twice.
The top-ranked team in the West improved to 13-0-2 overall and 11-0-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Cal State East Bay dropped to 3-10-2, 3-8-2 CCAA.
Also impressive was the Warriors' record on the road over the past two regular seasons. For the second straight year Stanislaus went undefeated, going 5-0-2 in 2013. Last year the Warriors were 9-0. In fact, over the past three seasons, the Warriors were 19-1-5 away from Warrior Stadium during the regular season. The last away lost was at Pioneer Stadium in Hayward on Sept. 23, 2011.
"Winning on the road in this conference takes an exceptional effort every time," head coach
Gabriel Bolton said. "To go two consecutive regular seasons undefeated speaks to the tremendous determination of the women on this team."
Demery put the Warriors up on the board early, in the 23rd minute, to give her team the 1-0 lead.
Karli Nestler sent in the through ball beautiful to allow the three-time All-American to score.
Despite out-shooting the Pioneers 23-2 in the final count, the score was tight as CSUEB tied the match in the 64th minute on a Alyssa Rodriguez goal.
But, Demery and the Warriors kept attacking relentlessly. At 76:15,
Mikayla Clifford's cross to center of the box found Demery, who headed in for the go-ahead score.
Cal State Stanislaus dominated the match offensively as the Warriors also out-numbered East Bay, 12-1 in shots on goal — making it the ninth time this season that the Warriors held opponents to two shots on goal or less.
"I'm extremely proud of our effort tonight. Our team played wonderful soccer and created a lot of chances," Bolton added.
Entering the week, Demery was ranked in the top four in four difference categories among all Division II players in the nation. She's second in points (40) and is third in both goals (16) and points per game (2.86). She's also fourth in goals per game with 1.143. Demery was also seventh with eight assists.
Stanislaus, now with 35 points in the CCAA North, faces Sonoma State on Sunday at Warrior Stadium. The Seawolves beat Humboldt State on Friday to improve to 8-2-3 in the CCAA with 27 points. The Warriors could clinch the division with a tie or a win over SSU.
