Box Score TURLOCK — Home sweet home. The Cal State Stanislaus women's volleyball team won consecutive conference games for the first time this season as the Warriors spiked Cal State East Bay, 3-1, Saturday night inside Fitzpatrick Arena.
The 20-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-20, win is also the Warriors' third straight home victory as they completed the weekend sweep to improve to 7-14 overall and 4-9 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Cal State Stanislaus also won its last Saturday home match two weeks ago, 3-0, over Cal State Dominguez Hills.
This Saturday night, on the team's Dig for the Cure night, the Warriors were again led by freshmen
Blair Ehrlich,
Paige Walker,
Hannah Green and
Sarah Crowl.
Ehrlich notched her second straight 20-kill performance with 20 kills, following her near-school-record 27 kills night in Friday's win over Cal State Monterey Bay. Walker chipped in 11 kills and 11 digs on the opposite side with Green running the offense for 46 more assists (she had 48 Friday).
Defensively, despite being badly out-blocked at the net, Stanislaus had 70 team digs — 31 from Crowl with her third 30-plus dig match. She had tied the school record with 35 in a match on Sept. 14 and now occupies three of the top eight spots on the CSUS single match digs list.
Crystal Tillett also had 10 digs and Ehrlich added nine.
The Warriors also served well with 11 aces — led by Crowl and
Tiffany Isel each with three.
After Cal State East Bay (7-14, 3-10 CCAA) took advantage of a sluggish start by the Warriors in the first set for the 25-20 score, the Warriors responded with a big 25-17 win with a late rally keyed by three of
Jocelyn Cervantes' 13 kills on the night.
The fourth was also close, with no one leading by more than four points until the set point when
Jordan Harris put away one of her five kills. Cervantes again helped with the late rally, scoring two of the final three points.
In the fifth, Crowl served for six straight points to give CSUS a 18-12 lead on a Walker attack, then two Harris kills mixed in some attacking errors by the Pioneers resulted in a
Taylor Massengale winner at 25-20.
East Bay, which had 17 blocks, got 21 digs from Veronica Sanchez. Suzy Ni Xu led with 11 kills and Amber Hall had 10 kills adn 15 digs.
After a pair of road games at No. 16 Cal State San Bernardino and No. 11 UC San Diego next week, the Warriors will go for their fourth straight home win against Chico State on Wednesday, Nov. 6.
