Box Score TURLOCK — Freshman
Blair Ehrlich pounded away 17 more kills Friday night but the Cal State Stanislaus women's volleyball team came up short in a three-set match to Cal Poly Pomona at Pitman High School.
Cal State Stanislaus fell to 7-22 overall and 4-17 in CCAA play after the 31-29, 25-16, 25-23 loss to Cal Poly Pomona, which improved to 12-17, 10-11 in conference action.
Ehrlich continues to lead the team offensively with 13 of her 17 kills coming in the first two set. Ehrlich, a CCAA freshman of the year candidate, now has 365 kills which is fifth best on the CSU Stanislaus single season top 10 list. The tally is also a new freshman best.
However, the Warriors again weren't able to overcome a hard-fought defeat in the opening set. The Warriors had set-point four times but were not able to close out the match before losing the thriller 31-29.
Ehrlich had eight of her kills and recorded a .444 attacking percentage (8-for-18 without an error) in the second set. She also had 8 of the team's 14 points during the period. However, the Broncos were even stronger hitting at a .412 clip, led by Alexa Hasen, who eventually ended up with 14 kills.
Christen Williams had 10 kills and Zoe Herrera picked up 20 digs to pace Cal Poly Pomona.
For the Warriors,
Paige Walker had eight kills with 11 digs and
Sarah Crowl earned 16 digs.
Hannah Green had 35 assists.
Crowl enters Saturday night's season finale as the Warriors' single-season leader with 532 digs and 5.43 digs per set.
The match was moved to Pitman High School, two miles from the Cal State Stanislaus campus, due to CSU Stanislaus University President Joseph Sheley's Investiture which took place earlier on the day inside Fitzpatrick Arena.
Saturday night's match against Humboldt State, where the Warriors will recognize senior
Tiffany Isel, will return on campus for the 7 p.m. first-serve. The volleyball match follows a 2 p.m. men's basketball matinée between Cal State Stanislaus and Holy Names.
