Box Score CHICO — Unable to turn in a repeat performance, the Cal State Stanislaus Warriors fell in the hot-hands of the Wildcats as Chico State split the season series after the 88-67 decision in the CCAA contest Saturday night.
Rashad Parker put-up career-high 31 points against the Warriors to lead Chico State to its sixth straight win, avenging their early-season overtime loss to Stanislaus in Turlock. Chico State improved to 7-1 overall and 3-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Rob Walters led Cal State Stanislaus with 16 points and five rebounds.
Marcus Bell and
Chris Read each had 14 points with the Warriors dipping to 5-2 overall and 2-2 in the CCAA after two straight conference setbacks.
Forr the second straight CCAA game, Warrior opponents went to the line for more than 30 free throw attempts. Chico State was 29 for 34 from the foul line as the Warriors were penalized 25 times. Bell again fouled out with about five minutes left to play. But by then, the Warriors were already down 22 points, 81-59.
Stanislaus got as close as four points, 42-38, with 17:06 to play in the second half. However, an 8-0 Chico run gave the Wildcats the momentum they never gave up en route to the large-margin win as Chico State shot 63.6 percent in the second half to pull away.
Last Saturday, at San Francisco State, the Gators were 23 for 31 from the foul line as the Warriors were called on 18 fouls.
The Warriors beat Chico State on Nov. 16 in Turlock in an 80-78 overtime victory, which is still the Wildcats' only loss this season. Stanislaus was also unsuccesful in its encore-try in Chico's Acker Gym. A year ago in Chico, on Dec. 6,
Sam Marcus beat the Wildcats with a buzzer-beater — the last time Chico State lost a home. The Wildcats have won 14 straight home games since.
The Cal State Stanislaus men will host Pacifica College next Friday at 7 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Arena before the holiday break.
