Box Score SAN FRANCISCO — The Cal State Stanislaus men's basketball team lost for the first time this season as the Warriors dropped a 71-56 decision at San Francisco State Saturday night inside The Swamp.
San Francisco State went to the foul line frequently and the Gators took advantage as they converted on 23 of 31 free throw attempts. SF State improved to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the California Colleigate Athletic Association while handing Stanislaus its first setback. The Warriors, who entered the night as the CCAA's only undefeatd team, are now 5-1, 2-1 in the CCAA.
Marcus Bell led the Warriors with 13 points and 10 rebounds before fouling out with more than eight minutes left to play.
Rob Walters scored 13 points and
Shey Mataele chipped in seven points.
The Gators were led by Nefi Perdomo who had 27 points, including 9 of 10 from the foul line. Udun Osakue scored 12 and pulled 11 rebounds. SF State went to the free throw line with 31 attempts and made 74.2 percent of them — in contrast the Warriors had 14 free throw attempts and made just six.
San Francisco State also out-rebounded the Warriors, 44-33. Cal State Stanislaus also shot a season-low 37.3 percent and made just six three-pointers on 22 tries.
A 7-0 run capped by a
Taylor Bell three-pointer in the middle of the first half gave Stanislaus a 22-15 lead — a 7-point lead that the Warriors matched two more times. However, with a 28-21 lead, the Warriors weren't able to stay ahead as they allowed a SFSU 7-0 run to tie the score.
A 17-6 Gator run to start the second half helped SF State take the game over and the Gators stayed ahead, largerly due to the shooting of Perdomo and their trips to the free throw line.
Next Saturday, the Warriors will travel to take on Chico State and face the Wildcats for the second time this season.
