2/16/2013 10:22:00 PM

Box Score TURLOCK — For the second time this season, the Cal State Stanislaus men's basketball team man-handled the Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes as the Warriors hit all cylinders in beating CSUSB, 82-61.

Back on Jan. 11, the Warriors beat the then-15th ranked Coyotes, 76-60 at Coussoulis Arena. Saturday night, the Warriors out-played CSUSB all-round to improve to 9-13 overall and 6-12 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Cal State Stanislaus, now winner of two straight, is now one game out of a CCAA tournament spot with four to go. The Warriors are home next weekend for the final time before closing out the regular season on the road.

The second place Coyotes lost two straight and fell to 15-6 overall and 13-5 in conference play. The Stanislaus win also helped Cal Poly Pomona clinch the regular season title as the Broncos beat Cal State Monterey Bay Saturday night.

Wes Bartole led the Warriors with 15 points and 12 rebounds and Marcus Walters had 14 points. Taylor Bell hit three more three-pointers for 13 points.

The hot-shooting Warriors got even hotter in the second half. After hitting on 13 of 27 shots (six of them three-pointers) in the first half, Stanislaus shot 57.1 percent in the second half.

The passing game also worked well for the Warriors inside and out as they were credited with 14 assists.

In all, Stanislaus made eight three-pointers after hitting 12 Friday night in the win over UC San Diego. The Warriors also out-rebounded the bigger CSUSB team, 37-26, largely thanks to getting Kwame Alexander in foul trouble.

The athletic Alexander, who is third in the CCAA in scoring (15.4 ppg) the tops in rebounding (9.1 rpg), never got going. He picked up his second foul eight minutes into the game and sat until the 7-minute mark before picking up his third with 54 seconds left to go. Alexander finished with nine points and four rebounds in 24 minutes of play.

Lacy Haddock led CSUSB with 18 points and six assists.

Cal State Stanislaus rolled out to its biggest lead in the first half of 23 points, at 38-15, after a pair of Nick Hodge free throws. That capped a 13-3 run keyed by eight Bartole points.

Just when the Coyotes tried to comeback in the second half when they cut the deficit to 10 points, 55-45, at 13:19, the Warriors took-off again. A 15-1 spurt gave Stanislaus a 24-point lead with 8:28 to go. Three-pointers by Bell and Marcus Pullum highlighted this Warrior rally.

The Warriors also got to the free throw line often to convert 24 of 35 tries.
