Box Score 2 TURLOCK — The Cal State Stanislaus softball team lost in the hands of No. 11 ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills to start Sunday at the Best of the West. The Warriors then allowed Cal State San Marcos to comeback for a 3-2 win in the second game as they went 0-2 on the day.
Cal State Dominguez Hills won, 6-2, to improve to 4-0 at the time. The Toros would later loose to San Francisco State as the Gators won the tournament title. The Warriors finished 2-2 in the tournament. The Gators went 4-1 and won a three-team tiebreaker since they beat both Cal State San Marcos and Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Cal State Stanislaus trailed 3-0 but rallied for two runs to in the fifth on two solo home runs, by
Lauren Liming and
Kiley Mendez. The Toros added three more runs in the sixth inning, including an Adrianna Sanchez homer.
Brittani Weatherford was tagged with the loss after 5 2/3 innings pitched. She gave up six runs on eight hits.
Brittney Rickles and
Cierrah Mullins both also had a hit in the game.
In the second game, the Warriors got on the board first in the fourth on a RBI single by Weatherford to score Liming, who ledoff the inning with a single to center.
Cal State San Marcos tied the game in the fifth on a Stanislaus error. Melyssa Bellamy scored from second on a failed pickoff attempt.
Sarah Locarnini scored a run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fifth, but CSUSM scored twice to take the lead in the seventh — both Cougar runs in the seventh were unearned.
Natalie Rendon gave up five hits without allowing an earned run. Rickles went 2-for-3 with a double. Mullins and
Mia Ramirez both also doubled.
Mullins, who hit safely in all four games this weekend, was named to the All-Tournament team along with Liming.
