Warriors conclude 2013 season against Toros

4/27/2013 5:25:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CARSON — The Cal State Stanislaus softball team faced a team trying to qualify for the conference tournament — and during the regular season's final day, one of the Toro seniors dominated on Senior Day as Cal State Dominguez Hills swept the Warriors.

Pitcher Stephanie Jimenez picked up two wins in the circle with, first a no-hitter in a 5-0 win, then a four-hit 1-0 shutout, to help the Toros take the four-game set and advance to the California Collegiate Athletic Association conference tournament, which is next weekend in Stockton.

Jimenez, the CCAA's pitcher of the week for the third time this past week, nearly threw a perfect game in the first game on Saturday. Brittani Weatherford was the only base runner of the game for the Warriors when she was hit by a pitch in the fourth. Sarah Locarnini, however, followed with a double-play grounder. Jimenez faced the minimum in the game and struck out 10.

In the nightcap, Jimenez threw another complete game, this time a four-hitter, to improve to 24-7. She struck out seven Warriors in game two.

Cal State Stanislaus (16-36, 9-27 CCAA) had base runners at second and third in the fourth with just one out after Kristan Burns doubled to right-center following a Locarnini single and a Cierrah Mullins fly out to center. The Warriors, however, stranded the runners with a pop-up and a line-out.

Kiley Mendez singled to leadoff the fifth, but pinch runner Ghianna Falconi was left on base at third (she was moved over on a bunt and went to third on a wild pitch) with a strikeout and a groundout.

The Toros (34-19, 21-15 CCAA) move on, with a nine-game winning streak, as the No. 4 seed in the CCAA Championships and will take on Humboldt State (44-12, 31-5). UC San Diego (31-21, 24-12 CCAA) and Sonoma State (34-17, 21-14 CCAA) also advanced to the conference tournament.
