Box Score TURLOCK —
Karenee Demery scored two more goals and the Warriors again play solid defense as Cal State Stanislaus women's soccer opened CCAA play with a commanding 5-1 win over Cal State San Bernardino.
Demery scored a goal in each half, increasing to her season total to five and career total to 59, as the 10th ranked Warriors remain unbeaten at 3-0-0. Demery got Stanislaus on the board first in the 15th minute as she scored thru traffic after collecting a cross from
Tina Benson. Demery gave the Warriors a 4-0 lead at 71:23 on an easy score after her defender collided with the CSUSB goalkeeper.
"I was very proud of how our team played tonight," said head coach
Gabriel Bolton, "They kept their composure and as the game went on became more determined to play quality soccer."
Keeping pace with the three-time All-American,
Katelyn Nebesnick scored another goal as well in the 70th minute — a play nicely set-up by
Sabrina Williamson and
Jordan Moineau, who finished the night with three assists. Nebesnick, who scored twice in last Saturday's win over Cal Baptist, now has four goals.
Mikayla Clifford knocked in her first collegiate goal at 37:30 that gave the Warriors a 2-0 lead at the time. Her goal was assisted by freshman
Maryssa McDuffy and Demery.
"One of the things that makes this such an exciting team is that we have so many players that can put the ball in the back of the net. We showed that tonight," added Bolton.
Six different Warriors have now contribute to the team's scoring in three matches. Stanislaus has out-scored opponents 13-1.
After CSUSB (2-2-0, 0-1-0 CCAA) picked up a score — the first by a Warrior opponent in the first 256-plus minutes of the season — by Emily Mardon, Stanislaus finished off the Coyotes late. With 19 second left to play,
Keshia Lyons sent home her first goal of the year.
Cal State Stanislaus out-shot the Coyotes, 19-3 with a 11-1 advantage in the first half. The Coyotes only had two shots on goal with CSUS goalie Chelsea Lewandoski earning a save.
The Warriors will be in action again when Chico State comes to town on Sunday for a 11:30 a.m. kickoff at Warrior Stadium.
