ROHNERT PARK — In Wild, Wild West fashion, two of the best women's soccer programs in the region went head-to-head (and toe-to-toe) today with the result a thrilling a 2-2 draw at Sonoma State's Seawolf Soccer Field.

Katelyn Nebesnick's goal with 45 seconds left forced overtime as No. 11 Cal State Stanislaus and No. 15 Sonoma State stay undefeated — each with 4-0-1, 2-0-1 CCAA records.

"I was very proud of how we battled today. It can be discouraging to be down late in the game but our players put up a great fight and they were rewarded for their efforts," CSUS head coach Gabriel Bolton said.

Nebesnick's equalizer, assisted by Karli Nestler, answered two straight goals by Sonoma's Cara Curtain, who had put Sonoma State in control in the 86th minute.

Curtain's header goal at 85:44 gave the Seawolves a 2-1 lead. Prior to that Curtain, perhaps the second best player in the CCAA behind Warrior senior Karenee Demery, had tie the score with a goal at 70:05.

After a tight battle with teams locked in a scoreless tie for 60 minutes, Sabrina Williamson got the Warriors on the scoreboard with her first goal of the season on a 8-yard shot. Her goal, netted at 60:06, was assisted by Kirsten Coleman.

However, Curtain answered five minutes later with a breakaway score and blast from 20 yards out past a diving CSUS goalie Chelsea Lewandowski. Curtain's second goal came off of a corner kick by her sister Lauren Curtain.

Lewandowski finished with eight saves while her counter-part Allison Hadidian stabbing nine Stanislaus shots on goals. SSU slightly out-shot the Warriors, 17-15.

"Sonoma is an excellent team. Playing great competition is a privilege the CCAA provides us each week. That's what makes our conference fun," added Bolton.

Last year, Sonoma State defeated the Warriors, 2-1, in the regular season finale at Warrior Stadium after the Warriors upset the then No. 2 Seawolves, 4-1, in Rohnert Park. The teams meet again later this season, on Oct. 27, in Turlock.

On Sunday, Stanislaus will face Humboldt State in Arcata. The Warriors have a seven-match winning streak against the Lumberjacks.
