Box Score POMONA — Down by as many as 22 points in the second half, the Warriors made a valiant effort against the second-best team in the conference before falling to Cal Poly Pomona, 58-46, Saturday night.
Alek Carlson led the Warriors with 12 points as the Warriors were held to a season-low in scoring and fell to 11-5 overall and 7-5 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Entering the week, the Warriors were tied for second place. After the Humboldt-Pomona trip, Stanislaus is now in fourth place, four games behind Pomona and five behind leader Cal State San Bernardino.
DeRonn Scott led Cal Poly Pomona with 13 points as the Broncos extended their winning streak to 11 games and improved to 13-3 overall 11-1 in CCAA play.
The Warriors — losers of three straight on the road — will return home for a four-game homestand starting this Friday when they host San Francisco State. Stanislaus is 8-0 this season at Fitzpatrick Arena this season.
Trailing by 22 points, 45-23, at 11:26 to play in the second half, Carlson sparked a 10-0 Stanislaus run to pull the Warriors within 12. Carlson scored eight straight points to start that rally, capped by a three-pointer and followed by a
Shey Mataele layup.
Stanislaus cut the Pomona lead to eight points at 1:23 to play after a pair of
Rob Walters free throws and a
Chris Read layup but the Warriors would not score again.
Read finished with 11 points and
Marcus Bell, who was held to a season-low four points, had nine rebounds. Walters, too, pulled nine rebounds but was held 0-for-4 from the field. Mataele chipped in seven points with four assists.
