Box Score LA JOLLA -
Jade Poon, the conference's leading scorer and three-time player of the week, was held to just one shot on Friday.
So what.
The tremendous offensive depth proved to be strong as the No. 7 ranked Warriors defeated UC San Diego, 4-2, Friday late afternoon.
Sabrina Williamson scored again,
Mikayla Clifford found the back of the net twice and
Katelyn Nebesnick returned to the pitch and blasted a penalty kick to lead Cal Staet Stanislaus.
The Warriors improved to 11-1-0 overall and 4-1-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association while UCSD dropped to 4-5-2, 1-3-1 CCAA.
With the defense paying extra attention to her, Poon, who leads CCAA and is fifth in NCAA Division II with 11 goals, dished two assists in Friday's win - extending the Warriors' regular season unbeaten streak against UC San Diego to four at 3-0-1.
"The great thing about this team is we have numerous players that can score. We don't just rely on one person. I think that makes us tough to defend," Stanislaus head coach
Gabriel Boltons said. "We executed the offensive game plan to near perfection. The movement and finishing by the forwards was really dynamic."
Picking up where she left off in last Sunday's thrilling 4-3 double overtime win over Sonoma State,
Sabrina Williamson scored the Warriors' first goal against the Tritons that was assisted by Poon in the 24th minute.
By the time halftime rolled around, the Warriors led 3-0 with Clifford scoring at 29:12 and Nebesnick, who missed the last seven matches due to injury, blasted a PK scored in the 38th minute.
UC San Diego did out-shot the Warriors, 9-6, in the first half but came up empty thanks to some great saves by Stanislaus goalkeeper
Chelsea Lewandowski, who finished with five saves.
The Tritons tried to rally in the second half and got within a score after netting two straight on goals by Kylie Hill and Jordyn McNutt.
"Giving two goals back in the second half put a little pressure on us. However we really responded well and put the game away," said Bolton.
The Warriors held tough and Clifford added a goal in the 84th minute on a play nicely set-up by both Williamson and Poon for the final count. Stanislaus scored four goals against Kelcie Brodsky, the CCAA's leader in goalkeeper saves with 50.
For Clifford, it was the third time this season she's scored two goals in a match. She now has seven on the season.
It was another 4-goal match for Cal State Stanislaus against UC San Diego. Last season, in Turlock on Oct. 4, the Warriors beat the Tritons 4-1.
Stanislaus will face Cal Poly Pomona on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. The Broncos blanked Cal State East Bay, 3-0, on Friday to improve to 7-4-0, 2-3-0 CCAA. The Warriors will be playing at Kellogg Field at Pomona for the first time since 2011.
