Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TURLOCK — Yes, the Warriors were bright in primetime under the lights. In their first night games on the campus home field, the Cal State Stanislaus softball team swept Cal State East Bay in a pair of non-conference games on Wednesday.

Natalie Rendon pitched a one-hitter and Brianna Nicholson homered in the inaugural night game as the Warriors beat the Pioneers, 6-1. Then, behind another strong outing by the starting pitcher in Jessica Varady, plus a hot Brittney Rickles on offense, the Warriors completed the sweep with a 6-2 nightcap victory.

The Warriors, now 3-4, used timely hitting to capitalize on East Bay (0-2) errors to win both games on a clear, but cool historic night. The Pioneers committed a total of seven errors in the doubleheader. Half of the Stanislaus runs were unearned runs.

In perhaps one of her best games as a Warrior, Rendon got out of early jams and regained control to cruise to the win. After allowing three walks in the first two innings without damage, the junior pitcher settled down. Despite giving up a run in the third — a leadoff walk that eventually came around to score on a Sara Cerminara single up the middle — Rendon was in control. She retired seven straight batters starting with the fourth thinning after her team got her a 4-1 lead.

In the end, Rendon threw the complete game and gave up just the one single. She walked six and struckout four batters.

The Warriors had plenty of offense off the East Bay starting pitchers, who both struggled with walks. Emily Perlich walked five in her 4 1/3 inning outing in game one. Game two starter Kelsey Cairns walked eight.

Stanislaus made it 4-1 in the third inning on a Rickles RBI double and a Nicholson single. The Warriors would tag on two more runs in the fifth with a Nicholson line-drive homer to left. Natalie Winters followed with an infield single and later scored on a Cassidy Duke single through the left-side.

In game one, the 6-7-8 hitters Rickles, Nicholson and Winters went 6-for-11 with two hits apiece.

Rickles followed her 2-for-3 game by moving up to the leadoff spot and stayed hot to go 2-for-5 with three runs batted in. Rickles had RBI singles in the fourth and fifth innings and then drove in a run on a fielder's choice with the bases loaded. Nicholson had two more hits in the nightcap, including a double in the seventh to start another rally.

Varady threw six solid innings and allowed just two runs on six hits. She walked three and fanned three Pioneers to pick up her first win as a Warrior. Karina Callazo faced four batters in the seventh inning to close out the game.

Jaynie MacDonald was 2-for-3 with two doubles to lead Cal State East Bay in the second game.

The Warriors will begin California Collegiate Athletic Association play on Friday when they host Cal State Dominguez Hills. Friday's doubleheader starts at Noon.
