Box Score LOS ANGELES — In all came down to the final seconds again for the Cal State Stanislaus men's basketball. And for the third time in the last four games the Warriors lost a close game in the end as they lost at Cal State L.A., 62-59, Saturday night.
Cal State L.A. scored four unanswered points in the final 29 seconds of the game to prevent Cal State Stanislaus the road win and the road trip sweep. The Warriors, now 14-8, 10-8 in the CCAA, fall for the third time in four games and hangs on to a share of fourth place in the CCAA standings.
Chris Read led the Warriors with 23 points on 9 of 14 shooting as the Warriors overcame a poor start and led by seven early in the second half after an 8-0 run.
Then a see-saw battled ensued until the Warriors managed to create a small advantage with a five-point, 53-48 lead after two Red free throws at 3:32.
However, the Golden Eagles rolled off eight of the next 10 points capped by a Duce Zaid dunk at 1:36 left to play for Cal State L.A. to regain the lead by one.
Read would swing the lead by to the Warriors' side with a pair of free throws. Zaid and Red exchanged layups to make it 59-58 in favor of the Warriors with 47 seconds left.
With 29 seconds left,
Shey Mataele was called on a foul and Zaid converted on two free throws. A three-pointer by
Alek Carlson fell short and LA answered with a James Tillman score to make it 62-59.
For the third game in two weekends, the Warriors had a chance to at least tie the game with time running out. However,
Sam Marcus' three-point try was no good as time expired.
Marcus finisehd with 11 points and
Marcus Bell was held to eight points on just 3 of 9 shooting. He did pull a team-best 11 rebounds.
