Series Notes: Cal State Stanislaus leads the series against San Francisco State, 16-5-4, including a 20-match unbeaten streak (see note below). The Warriors are also 7-3-2 when playing at San Francisco State ... The Warriors have won seven straight against Cal State Monterey Bay and are now 21-2-0 overall and 18-2-0 during conference play over CSUMB.
Last Time We Met: Cal State Stanislaus beat the Gators, in San Francisco, 1-0, on Oct. 20 in overtime.
Katelyn Nebesnick scored 1:16 into the extra period ... Stanislaus also won the contest in Turlock last Sept. 27, 2-0 ... In the Oct. 18 match at Cal State Monterey Bay,
Karenee Demery and
Jordan Moineau scored for the Warriors in the 2-0 win.
Dominating the Gators: The Warriors have completely owned SF State over the past 12 seasons as Stanislaus holds a 16-0-4 record against the Gators since 2001 ... SF State did not score against the Warriors in 2013 in a pair of
Chelsea Lewandowski and Warrior defense shutouts.
In the Rankings: The Warriors remain the No. 3 ranked team in the nation in this week's NSCAA/Continential Tire Division II poll. Saint Rose and Minnesota State-Mankato are ahead of Cal State Stanislaus. The Warriors stay as the top team in the West, ahead of Cal State San Bernardino, Western Washington and Sonoma State ... In the Bennett Rank, the Warriors dropped a spot from No. 1 to No. 2 behind Rollins College (which is No. 8 in the NSCAA poll).
Upon Further Review: Jade Poon almost had another three-plus goal week. Almost. Poon was originally credited with a goal in Sunday's 1-0 win at Chico State, but after the goal was questioned by the Chico coaching staff, a post-game review of video prompted the scoring change to a Wildcats own goal. Still, the freshman scored two goals on Thursday to run her season total to nine.
On Record Pace: Speaking of
Jade Poon, the fabulous freshman who is following the big foot steps of four-time All-American
Karenee Demery, is on track for a Demery-like year. Both Poon and Demery are on the same pace, each scored nine goals in the first seven matches of their collegiate careers. Demery picked up her 10th goal in game No. 10 before going on to finish the year with a new single season record of 19.
Long Awaited Goals: Sara Latham waited a long time to scored a goal as a Warrior - and she did it twice in last Thursday's 6-1 win over UC Santa Cruz. The Turlock native returned home prior to the 2013 season but had to sit out the year after tranferring from Houston. Latham had a stellar career at Modesto Junior College where she was a two-time All-American who tallied 40 goals in two seasons.
Many More Scorers: The Warriors are also featuring scoring depth as two others have four or more goals and three other Warriors have also netted a goal.
Kirsten Coleman has five goals and
Mikayla Clifford finished four scores. Four other Warriors each have a goal to their credit.
Keeps Winning on the Road: Cal State Stanislaus extended its unbeaten streak away from Warrior Stadium to 25 matches at 21-0-4 since the middle of the 2011 season ... the last away defeat was Sept. 23, 2011 at Cal State East Bay (2-1).
About the Gators (5-1-0, 0-0-0 CCAA): San Francisco State is off to a good start at 5-1 by playing decent defense. The Gators have only allowed just four goals while scoring 10 ... Elizet Ceja and Autumn Fox each has three goals and two assists ... Goalkeeper Allison Land has played every minute with 14 saves and a 0.65 GAA ... SFSU have some impressive wins, including victories over Notre Dame de Namur, Fresno Pacific and Hawaii Pacific but the Gators lost at William Jessup ... Jack Hyde is in his 32nd year as the only head coach of the program.
About the Otters (3-2-0, 0-0-0 CCAA): Cal State Monterey Bay has won two straight with shutout wins against UC Santa Cruz (2-0) and Dominican (3-0) last week ... Three different players - Regan Porteous, Kristen Womack and Jami Murray - each scored two goals ... The 3-2 start equals the program's best five-match start set in 2012 ... CSUMB has shutout wins over Central Washington (1-0), UC Santa Cruz (2-0) and Dominican (3-0).
