Box Score TURLOCK — The defending California Collegiate Athletic Association champion Warriors successfully opened the new campaign with a victory as No. 3 Cal State Stanislaus beat San Francisco State, 1-0, Friday at Cox Stadium.

Kirsten Coleman and Maecie Ireland hooked up for the only score of the match in the 37th minute as the Warriors remain perfect at 8-0-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the CCAA.

With the 1-0 win, the Warriors' dominance over SF State continued as they have now gone 17-0-4 against the Gators since 2001. Stanislaus has also won 10 straight matches in the series and shutout the Gators for the third consecutive match.

"We gave a fantastic effort today against a tough team on very challenging field conditions," head coach Gabriel Bolton said. "Our team has worked very hard to be a good pressing team that can counter attack teams. Maecie read the play perfectly and hit a terrific pass."

The Warriors also extended its unbeaten streak on the road to 26 matches, going 22-0-4 since the middle of the 2011 season.

In Friday's defensive match, where teams only combined to shoot 16 times in favor of Stanislaus' 11, the Warriors took just six shots on goal. But the one that counted came at 36:43 when Ireland sent a nicely placed pass across the field 40 yards out to find Coleman on the far side. Coleman juked a defender and booted it in past SFSU goalie Allison Land for her sixth goal of the year.

"The goal by Kirsten was a Goalazo. It was hit with incredible power into the roof of the goal and pretty much rattled the entire stadium," Bolton said. "I'm very proud of how she battle her illness and not only played but played exceptionally well. She showed incredible heart as did our entire team."

Entering the contest, Land and the Gators defense have only allowed four goals in six previous matches. SF State is now 5-2-0 and 0-1-0 in CCAA.

Friday's shutout win was the Warriors' fifth this season — and fourth in the last five games — while the offense have outscored teams 14-1. It is the Warriors' second consecutive 1-0 win after last Sunday's win at Chico State.

Chelsea Lewandowski started in goal for Stanislaus. She picked up three saves in the win. "We got a shutout because our goalkeeper and backs are tough as nails. They are just relentlessly competitive," added Bolton.

The Warriors are at Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday.
