Box Score 2 CARSON — A grand slam homer and a three-run bomb resulted in a nine-run inning for Cal State Stanislaus as the Warriors blasted Cal State Dominguez Hills, 10-2, in five innings in game one of the doubleheader in Carson.
Kailene Begonia belted the grand slam and
Cassidy Duke added a three-run homer in the Warriors' fourth inning to erase a 2-0 deficit for a dominating victory over the Toros. The Warriors are now 7-9 overall and 3-7 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association after losing game two of the twinbill, 8-2.
Jessica Varady got plenty of run-support in her start to pick up the win in the circle. She allowed two runs on seven hits in five innings and improved to 4-3 on the season. She struck out three and walked two. Varady, too, got into the home run derby with a solo shot in the fifth inning for the eight-run margin.
In the Stanislaus fourth,
Holly Mooring singled in two runs after a
Deenah San Luis single and a Duke double. Then, after another single by Varady and
Morgan Balestreri reaching base on a catcher's interfence to load the bases, Begonia homered to center for the 6-2 lead.
All that happened without the Toros recording an out.
With one out, the Warriors hit parade continued with singles by
Amy Pedretti and
Nicolette Vizcaino. After a fielder's choice, Duke — the Warriors' 11th batter in the inning — homered to left to make it 9-2.
In the inning, nine runs scored on eight hits and two Dominguez Hills errors.
Deenah San Luis went 2-for-2 and Varady was 2-for-4 with a RBI double in game two.
