TURLOCK — The Cal State Stanislaus women's tennis team picked up two teams points against the 11th ranked Academy of Art team on Saturday as the Warriors' busy week continues.
Academy of Art featured an all international line-up. In fact only one player on the Urban Knights' roster is from the U.S.
"We had a great match. We could have had 6-3 or maybe 5-4 match," head coach
Verek Visaraga said. "I am liking how we are playing and we should have a great match at Sonoma State."
At No. 3 doubles,
Kaitlyn Ireland and
Jessica Stokes won a very close match, 8-6, over Dorota Markowska and Gabriela Rivas of Poland and El Salvador.
The Warriors also won at No. 2 singles where
J'Ana Diamond beat Michelle Dandik, who hails from Quebec, Canada. Diamond rallied from down 7-5 in the first set to win the second 6-4. Then she edged Dandik 10-8 in the super-tiebreaker.
At No. 1 singles,
Jessica Laurie fared well against nationally ranked Nina Gajdosikova of Slovakia. Laurie battled before losing in the super-tiebreakers third set.
Saturday's match was the Warriors' third match of the week. They had played Cal State L.A. on Tuesday and Hawaii Hilo on Wednesday. Stanislaus is not done for the week as the Warriors will travel to Rohnert Park to face Sonoma State on Sunday.
