The Warriors will open the 2016-17 season by traveling to Portland, Ore. to compete in the CCAA/GNAC Challege hosted by Concordia Portland. They will face Central Washington at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, and Concordia Portland at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Both games will be played at the LCEF Court on the campus of Concordia Portland.

Series Notes: The Warriors and Wilcats have come up against each other only four times since 1998, each achieving two victories. Stan State last faced Central Washington back in 2009 on neutral ground.
Last Time We Met... was on Nov. 28, 2009. Three Warriors scored double digits, and the team totaled 20 rebounds and 11 assists to beat CWU 69-59.
About the Wildcats: The Wildcats have played in two exhibition games this season, losing to the University of Washington 66-97, and beating Pacific Luteran University 75-44. Jasmin Edwards led the Wildcats in both games with 20 points against the Huskies, and 10 points against the Lutes.
Concordia Portland Cavaliers (0-0)
Series Notes: The CCAA/GNAC Challenge will be the first time ever that the Warriors and the Cavaliers will go up against each other.
About the Cavaliers: Concordia Portland has competed in two exhibition games so far this preseason. The Cavaliers lost to the University of Washington 57-99, and beat Warner Pacific 90-45. Against the Huskies Lexi Campbell led the Cavaliers with 14 points. Keesha Sarman was the Cavaliers leading scorer against the Knights with 16 points and 7 rebounds.
CCAA/GNAC Challenge
The four-team tournament features the Warriors, Cal State Monterey Bay, Central Washington, and Concordia Portland, playing two games each. Game times vary each day.

Preseason Tournaments
The last time the Warriors competed in a preseason tournament was back in Dec. of 2011. In another matchup of West Region schools, the Warriors went to San Francisco to compete in the CCAA/PacWest Challenge. The Warriors went 1-1, losing to what were a fellow CCAA school, Grand Canyon, and defeating Notre Dame de Namur.
Exhibition Competition
The Warriors competed against two DI programs in preseason exhibition games last weekend. On Friday, the Warriors traveled to UC Davis, losing 47-84. Despite the loss, the Warriors were able to hold their own, with 48 rebounds to the Aggies 52. On Saturday the Warriors challenged the University of Nevada Reno, with a 77-91 loss against the Wolf Pack.
Stepping Up The Competition
This preseason the Warriors are facing four division one progams in preparation for another tough conference season. Last weekend Stan State traveled to UC Davis and UNR. Later this month the Warriors will face Sacramento State, then finish off their non-conference competitions against San Jose State in mid December.
Rising To the Challenge
Senior forward Cassidy Sanders-Curry held her own against the DI competition, with 22 points and 14 rebounds over the weekend. On Friday night she went 9-for-9, leading her team in both categories.

Fitzpatrick Arena
Warrior Arena was renamed Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena at the start the 2010-11 season. The arena is named for Ed and Bertha Fitzpatrick, owners of Valley Lexus/Valley BMW in Modesto and other car dealerships in the Bay Area. The Fitzpatricks have been long-time supporters of California State University Stanislaus. The gym has been named Warrior Arena since 1999, 21 years after it was built … Since 1998, the Warriors have a 53.3 winning percentage in all home games … The modern-day home attendance record is 1,434 set on Dec. 9, 2000 against Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Head Coach Wayman Strickland
Wayman Strickland is in his fifth season as the head coach of the Warriors. After inheriting a team in July, 2012 (and went 2-25 in his first season), he turned the program around with a very competitive 16-11 season in 2015-16. Prior to his arrival at Stanislaus, Strickland was an assistant coach at Delta College. He spent nine years as a professional player in Europe and Asia after a stellar four-year career at the University of San Diego (1988-92), where he amassed 1,040 career points and 408 assists.
CCAA Basketball Championships
The 2015-16 CCAA Men's & Women's Basketball Championship tournament will be held during the first week of March. The first round games will be on campus sites on February 28 with the semifinals and finals on March 3 & 4 at The Sports Center in San Marcos. The winner of the tournament receives the automatic bid for the NCAA tournament.
Warriors in the Postseason
Last season the Warriors appeared in the CCAA postseason championship tournament for the third time in program history. As the No. 4 seed, the Warriors hosting the quarterfinal round at home at Fitzpatrick Arena, the first home postseason game since 1991. Stan State faced Cal State San Bernardino, ending their season with a 66-67 loss against the Coyotes. During the quarterfinal match, Cassidy Sanders-Curry was the leading scorer for the Warriors, with 15 points … Stanislaus last appeared in the NCAA tournament in 2003 when the Warriors lost to Cal State Bakersfield in a Regional first round game, 116-106 in overtime in Seattle.
