Â
Cranking up the competition
Last week the Warriors played their third Division I team of the season. Stan State has two more opportunities to compete against these high caliber teams, which will now count towards their overall record. After facing CSU Bakersfield on Tuesday, the Warriors will head to San Jose State on December 18 for their final Division I challenge.Â
Â
CCAA Home Opener
On Friday, the Warriors will host their first conference matchup up of the 2015-16 season. Warrior women's basketball has won two out of their last five CCAA home openers, with their most recent home opening win taking place last season against Cal State San Bernardino. Their defeat over the Coyotes was a part of the Warriors 5-2 winning streak that started out their best season since 2003.Â
Â
Road Wins
Last Friday the Warriors saw their first CCAA victory on the road. Historically, wins are hard to come by without the home court advantage in the CCAA. Last year Stan State went 4-6 on the road during conference play. In the 2014-15 season, the Warriors went 3-8 when they traveled. Stan State has a total of nine CCAA competitions on the road this season.Â
Â
Developing Warriors
Despite the fact that the Warriors' successes against Sacramento State don't count towards their season statistics, eight Warriors had a great game against the Hornets last week.
Lizzy Alexander improved her game with six points and seven rebounds. Three Warriors scored double digits,
Riley Holladay with 14 points, Angelica
Baylon with 11 points and
Leticia Infante with 10 points.
Cassidy Sanders-Curry had six rebounds against the Hornets and
Aleseana Whitney added three.
Caprina Pipion had three steals in last week's game and
Ana Burch had four assists.Â
Â
Spending December on the road
After Saturday's competition, the Warriors won't be back on their home court until January 6th. With almost a month on the road and away for the Holidays, the Warriors aren't able to re-claim the home court advantage until the new year. After which, Stan State competes at Fitzpatrick Arena three out of the four weekends in January. Â
