Leading Lizzy With 20
Last Monday, for the first time in her career, Lizzy Alexander scored a whopping 20 points against Holy Names. She shot .571 percent from the field, going 5-for-8 from the field and banking her solo free-throw shot in the first half alone. Her previous best was 15 points which she scored against Cal Poly Pomona earlier this season.
Humboldt Trip
Since 2007, the Warriors have only won one out of 12 games against Humboldt State that were played in Arcata. Being the longest trip the Warriors must take to play a CCAA opponent, the seven hour drive to Humboldt State has proven to be exhausting for the Warriors. The lone victory for Stan State at HSU was on Jan. 9, 2016 when the Warriors defeated the Lumberjacks 68-59.
Road Wins
Statistically speaking Stan State doesn't perform as well on the road as they do at home. The Warriors are 1-11 against Humboldt State in Arcata and 6-12 against Sonoma State in Rohnert Park. Over the past five years Stan State has gone 18-35 while traveling to CCAA opponents. The Warriors will spend the next four games on the road, unable to reclaim the home court advantage until the end of the month on Dec. 29th.Â
Conference Studs
Stan State currently has three Warriors who have earned respects as a top five player in three different CCAA statistical categories. Erika Larsen leads the conference with 2.3 blocks per game, improving her average from two blocks per game last week. She is also third in the CCAA with a .611 field goal percentage. Improving from second place last week to the lead this week, Zahria Hendrix is at the top of the conference in steals, averaging 4.5 steals per game. Caprina Pipion is tied for fifth with Tyla Turner from Humboldt State with 3 steals per game ... As a team the Warriors lead the conference in steals, averaging 13 per game.Â
Switching It Up
So far this season head coach Wayman Strickland has used five different starting lineups in a total of eight regular season games. Continually searching for the best combination the Warrior women are kept on their toes, constantly battling for a starting spot. The only Warrior who has started in all eight games is freshman Zahria Hendrix.
Spreading The Talent
With an incredibly talented roster the Warriors have had six different players serve as their leading scorer so far this season. Zahria Hendrix and Erika Larsen have each earned the respect twice, whereas Lizzy Alexander, Caitlin Keding, and Brittney Livingston have accomplished the achievement once. Alexander and Keding both led the team with 20-point games, and Larsen and Hendrix also shared the lead with 14 points apiece against Cal State San Bernardino.
