SERIES NOTES: The Warriors and the Cougars will meet for just the fourth time overall and the third time as CCAA foes. The Warriors have a 2-0-1 record against Cal State San Marcos with wins in the last two seasons. The time before that was in 2008 (0-0 tie in San Marcos) … UC San Diego has had the upper-hand in the head-to-head series with a 15-5-1 mark. The Tritons have won four straight in the series after Stan State taking four of five between 2011 and 2014.
RANKINGS: The Warriors are ranked No. 4 in the West Region by the United Soccer Coaches Association. They moved up from No. 8 … UC San Diego is No. 3 in the West and No. 19 in Division II.
MORE TRAVELING: Stan State is in the middle of a five-match in 12 days away from home stretch where they will visit British Columbia, Seattle, San Marcos, La Jolla and Chico before another home match. The last time the Warriors had five straight away games was in 2013 during the middle of the CCAAÂ season. During that period, they went 4-0-1 en route to a 18-1-2 overall record, the program's best ever.
GREAT NORTHWEST COMEBACKS: In both matches in the Pacific Northwest last week, the Warriors won in come-from-behind fashion with second half unanswered goals. Both times, against Simon Fraser and Central Washington, Stan State allowed a goal in the first half but made adjustments at halftime to rout the opponents in the second half. Against SFU, the Warriors scored three unanswered goals and versus Central Washington, Stanislaus used two second half goals, including the winner with less than three minutes left to play to win.
200 WINS: Sunday's win against Central Washington marks the program's 200th victory as women's soccer celebrates its 20th season. Stanislaus is now 200-160-33 since its inception in 1998. Head coach Gabriel Bolton has been a part of 148 of these wins.
SIX-GOAL WEEK FOR POON: Jade Poon became the first Warrior to score six goals in a week during last week's three-match stretch. She posted her second career hat trick in Monday's win over Notre Dame de Namur, then scored twice in the win over Simon Fraser. She then added a goal, the equalizer, in Sunday's victory over Central Washington … Poon now leads the CCAA with six goals and 13 points. She is also third in Division II in both goals and points.
AWESOME SUBS: No, sorry, we are not talking about sandwiches. This is about the timely subsitutions made by head coach Gabriel Bolton in Sunday's win. Two of his late substitutions paid off almost immediately in leading to the comeback win. Julia Cummings entered the match at 64:07 and assisted on a Jade Poon goal 22 seconds later at 64:29. Then, Gabriela Vargas scored the game-winning game at 87:26, 46 seconds after she entered the match.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS: Cal State San Marcos is in its first season as a Division II program. The Cougars are 2-2-0 after split a pair of matches last week with a win against California Baptist (1-0) and lost at Biola (0-2). Lauren Perry has a goal and an assist and two others each scored a goal so far … UC San Diego dropped from No. 9 to No. 19 in the national poll after losing a pair of games in Colorado. The Tritons lost to Colorado School of Mines, 4-0, last Friday and dropped a 1-0 decision at Regis on Sunday. UCSD had won all three home games prior to the Colorado trip. Katie O'Laughlin has three goals and an assist but was held to five total shots last week.
