Box Score CHICO — An ice cold second half doomed the Warriors as visiting Stanislaus State fell in the hands of the Chico State Wildcats Thursday night, 80-53, in Acker Gym.
The Warriors shot just 24.1 percent in the second half — and missed their first eight three-point attempts — to fall behind to dropped to 4-4 overall and 1-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. It was Stan State's season-low in points.
Chico State would shoot 56 percent and made 10 of 24 three-pointers in the second half to pull away for its first win of the season. Chico State, which had games canceled due to the Camp Fire, is now 1-2 overall and in league play. Thursday night's game was Chico State's first since the fire.
Stanislaus State hit a hot streak in the first half. Trailed by as many as 17 points early, an 14-0 Warrior run got them within three points at 3:44. They would get as close as two points on a
Vasilije Saraba three-pointer to make it 29-27, but would come no closer.
Stan State trailed just 34-29 at the break and Saraba scored 14 of his 16 points in the first half.
Jourdan Johnson had 10 points and
Andy Cleaves scored eight with five rebounds and four assists to pace the Warriors. Chico State had five players in double digits in scoring, led by Kevin Warren's 13 points.
As a team, the Warriors shot 34.5 percent on the night and was just 3 of 16 from the three-point arch.
Stan State is at Humboldt State Saturday night.
