SURPRISE, Ariz. — The Stanislaus State women's tennis team lost to Sonoma State, 5-0, in a PacWest Championship match on Friday, but the Warriors are guaranteed to have their best finish at this event, ever.
Despite the consolation bracket setback to the Seawolves, the Warriors will play for seventh place on Saturday at 9 a.m. against Dominican. Concordia Irvine edged Dominican, 5-4 to advance to the fifth place match against Sonoma State.
This is the Warriors' third consecutive appearance in the PacWest Tournament and the program won a first round match for the first time to play in the winner's bracket. They beat Hawaii Hilo on Wednesday before losing a quarterfinal match to No. 2 Hawaii Pacific.
On Friday against Sonoma State, the Seawolves took all three doubles matches to go up 3-0.
Ebone Qualls and
Miliaana Proft challenged at No. 3 doubles before falling 8-4.
Only two singles matches were completed for SSU to reach five points to end the contest. Carolyn Brooner defeated Proft, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 and Jenna DeTurk beat Qualls, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5.
The Warriors most recently played Dominican on March 25 in Turlock, where Stan State won 7-2.
