TURLOCK — Former collegiate All-American and Turlock native Aja Scheuber has been named the next head coach of the Stanislaus State softball team, announced Wednesday by Director of Athletics Terry Donovan.
 
Scheuber, a Turlock High School, Merced College and Fresno State alumna, becomes the ninth head coach in program history, a program that owns six NCAA Tournament appearances and three California Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament trips.
 
"Coach Scheuber brings a deep connection to softball in the Central Valley," said Donovan. "Her commitment to the positive and meaningful development of our students, both on and off the field, was evident during the interview process.
 
"I believe she will provide a foundation of life-long success for our Warrior student-athletes. We strive for a championship experience in the classroom, in the community, and in competition.  She'll be a great addition to our Warrior family."
 
Scheuber is a familiar face and name to those in the Central Valley and even on the Stanislaus State campus. She previously served as an assistant coach for the Stan State softball team from 2016-18. She has had success everywhere she's been as both a student-athlete and coach, and she's proven able to handle multiple roles and duties on and off the field.
 
Scheuber graduated from Turlock High School in 2004 and went on to play her college softball just 40 minutes south at Merced College. She wrapped up her collegiate career only one hour further south in the Valley at NCAA Division I and perennial West Coast power Fresno State. Scheuber also spent time coaching in the Central Valley. She was an assistant coach at CSU Bakersfield from 2011-13, and she spent another two seasons with the Warriors only three years ago.
 
"I am excited to be back at Stan State and appreciative of Terry Donovan for this opportunity to represent the university and athletics, as well as my hometown," said Scheuber. "There is a lot of potential in our area with community support and the ability to recruit the large talent pool throughout California and the Central Valley."

As a student-athlete at Division I Fresno State, Scheuber was named a 2008 ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-American. She was a two-time Western Athletic Conference All-Academic honoree and a Fresno State Dean's List selection, proving her strengths both on the field and in the classroom.
 
She was named all-West Region as a senior in 2008 after batting .342 with 48 RBIs, 31 runs scored, nine doubles and five home runs. She was placed on the all-Fresno Regional Tournament team after helping lead the Bulldogs to a WAC championship in 2007.
 
After a standout prep career at Turlock High, where she graduated from in 2004, Scheuber became an all-star at Merced College. There, she was a two-time first team all-Central Valley Conference honoree and was named the CVC Player of the Year as a sophomore in 2006. She was a two-way player during that outstanding season, hitting .368 with 33 RBIs and leading the state with 39 walks. She also led Merced College with a 1.87 ERA as a pitcher.
 
Scheuber's numerous abilities weren't just contained to the softball field as a two-way player and in the classroom as a multi-time all-academic honoree. She was also a member of Fresno's State's first-ever varsity women's lacrosse team in the spring of 2009. She played in all 14 games for the Bulldogs, making 13 starts and scoring five goals. She later served as a volunteer student assistant for the team, and the following fall was named the volunteer assistant coach.
 
RISING COACHING STAR
 
Scheuber has had multiple assistant coaching stops at both the NCAA Division I and II levels where she has been honing her softball coaching pedigree to go along with her impressive playing career.
 
Her first coaching stop was at Colorado State in 2011, where she coached the outfield, worked on location with pitchers and molded hitters into five-tool players. After a short stint with the Rams, she moved back to the Central Valley and joined the staff at CSU Bakersfield.
 
Scheuber continued using her own prowess as a two-way athlete to work closely with both the pitchers and the hitters during her two years with the Roadrunners (2011-13). She called pitches from the dugout in 2012 and '13, and landed six players on the all-Pacific Coast Softball Conference teams, including a Freshman of the Year and a first-team honoree. Her work with the team's academics brought the Roadrunners the best team GPA in the department in 2012.
 
Scheuber returned home to Turlock in 2016 to join the Stanislaus State staff as an assistant. The Warriors won 23 or more games in both of Scheuber's seasons. The team's 32 victories in 2018 with Scheuber on staff were its most in nine years. That 2018 squad made the program's first trip to the CCAA Tournament in 10 years after finishing third in the conference. She helped guide pitcher Megan Stacy to the 2018 all-CCAA Second Team and coached the pitching staff to a 2.76 team ERA.
 
Scheuber graduated from Fresno State in 2009 with a bachelor of arts in sociology. She received her master's degree in human performance and sport from New Mexico Highlands University in 2011. She also owns a teaching credential, which she earned in 2020.
