Men’s Basketball to Face Fresno State this Wednesday in an Exhibition Game

TURLOCK, Calif.— Stan State will travel to Fresno, Calif., this Wednesday, November 2 for a 7pm scheduled exhibition game against the Fresno State Bulldogs.  The Warriors will have two other exhibition games this season, but later in December against the University of the Pacific (December 13) and Sacramento State University (December 28).  Stan State will begin its regular season November 11-12 hosting the Stanislaus State Crossover Classic.
 
LAST SEASON:  The Warriors under the guidance of head coach Paul Trevor finished the 2021-22 campaign with a 9-13 overall record and a 6-11 CCAA record.  They finished in a tie for eighth place with Cal State East Bay and just two games behind sixth place, Cal Poly Pomona.  Stan State was 6-1 in its ten games including winning its last two games at Cal State Los Angeles (62-60) and over Cal State East Bay (68-66). 
 
The Warriors averaged 60.8 points per game while gave up 63.2 points per game.  They held their opponents to just 40% shooting from the field including just 30% from three-point land.  Stan State forced its opponents into turning the ball over 16.1 times per game. The Warriors averaged 8.0 steals per game led by Benno Zecic's 49 total steals in 22 games. 
 
ALL-CCAA:  Tony Singleton and Benno Zecic were named to the 2021-22 All-CCAA Team.  Singleton led the Warriors with his 13.2 points per game average, 57 threes made and 41.9% shooting from beyond the arc.  Zecic averaged 8.3 points per game while leading the team with his 115 assists and 49 steals. 
 
ALSO BACK:  Besides Tony Singleton and Benno Zecic, the Warriors return Matt Bender, Micah Boone, Mahda Fallay, Ramon Farias, Jeremiah Jones, Drew Nelson, Will Pallesi, Baljot Sahi, Marlon Short and Travion Williams from last year's team. Short averaged a team leading 7.2 rebounds per game and blocked a team high 11 shots.  Williams shot a team high 63% from the field.
 
FIVE NEWCOMERS:  Stan State will have five newcomers on this year's team in Noel Alexander Jr. (Jr, 6-8, 215, C), Daniel Ameyaw (Fr, 6-7, 210, F), Isaiah Jones (Jr, 6-4, G), Kobe Ordonio (Sr, 6-0, G) and Jordan Smith (Fr, 6-5, G/F). 
 
RANKED NATIONALLY:  Tony Singleton finished 22nd in the nation in three-point field goal percentage while Benno Zecic was in the top twenty-five in steals and assists. As a team last season, the Warriors finished ninth in the nation in scoring defense, 13th in field goal percentage defense and 22nd in three-point field goal percentage defense.
 
FIRST OF THREE:  Wednesday's exhibition game at Fresno State will be the first of three for the Warriors this season.  Stan State will face the University of the Pacific (December 13, 6pm) in Stockton and Sacramento State (December 28, 6pm) in Sacramento. 
 
REGULAR SEASON HOME OPENER:  Stan State will host the Stanislaus State Crossover Classic in Fitzpatrick Arena on November 11-12.  The Warriors will face Point Loma on November 11 and Fresno Pacific on November 12.  Tip-off for both contests is set for 7:30pm.  In the game prior to each of Stan State's games, Cal State East Bay will face Fresno Pacific on November 11 and Point Loma on November 12.  That tip-off is set for 5:30pm. 
 
PICKED TO FINISH SIXTH: In the 2022-23 CCAA Preseason Men's Basketball Poll, Stan State was picked to finish sixth. Cal State San Bernardino is first followed by Cal State San Marcos, Chico State, Cal Poly Pomona, and Cal State Dominguez Hills.  Seven through twelve are Cal Poly Humboldt, Cal State Monterey Bay, Cal State East Bay, Cal State Los Angeles, San Francisco State and Sonoma State. 
 
HOSTING CCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS:  This season, Stan State is hosting the CCAA Men's and Women's Basketball Championships March 2-4 at Fitzpatrick Arena. The top six teams will receive a berth the championships with the top two seeds receiving a first-round bye. The tournament champions will receive the league's automatic berth to the CCAA Championships. The men's quarterfinal games are set for noon and 2:30pm on March 2. The men's semi-finals will be at noon and 2:30pm on March 3 with the men's championship game set for March 4 at 5pm.
 
FRESNO STATE:  The Bulldogs went 23-13 last season and won the Basketball Classic Title in April.  They bring eight returners back from last year's team including four seniors in Jemarl Baker, Jordan Campbell, Anthony Holland, and Isaiah Hill along with juniors Destin Whitaker, Donovan Yap, and Leo Colimerio along with sophomore Stevan Vasquez.  Hill averaged 10.1 points per game while Holland averaged 6.2 rebounds per game.
