KANSAS CITY, Mo.--- After being out of the top ten in the United Coaches NCAA Division II Women's West Region rankings, Stan State women's soccer team is tenth in this week's rankings. The University of Hawai'i Hilo is first followed by Western Washington, Point Loma Nazarene, Chico State and Sonoma State.
Rounding out the top five in this week's rankings are Northwest Nazarene, Seattle Pacific, Concordia, Cal State Los Angeles and
Stanislaus State. Three of the West Region teams are in the top 25 in the nation in Hawai'i Hilo (sixth), Western Washington (#14) and Point Loma Nazarene (#17). Chico State and Sonoma State are receiving votes in this week's poll.
The Warriors, under the direction of head coach Gabe Bolton, are 5-3-2 overall and 2-2 in the CCAA. Stan State went 1-1 last week at home defeating SF State 2-0 before losing 4-2 to Sonoma State.
Alexis Brewah leads the way for the Warriors with her eight goals and five assists for 21 points.
Sabrina Cabrera is second on the team with her four goals, one assist and nine points. Two of Cabrera's goals this season have been game-winners.
Alexia Estrada has posted a 1.22 goals against average with 57 saves and a .838 saves percentage. She has recorded three shutouts in goals for Stan State.
This is the third time this season that Stan State is ranked in the top ten in the region. In the first poll, the Warriors were fifth. They dropped to eighth in the second and moved back to fifth in the third. After not being in the top ten last week, Stan State is back in at ten.
Stan State will return to the pitch this Thursday, October 6 for a 3pm starting match in Arcata, Calif., against Cal Poly Humboldt. The Warriors will return home to Warrior Field this Sunday, October 9 for a 2pm starting match with Chico State.
