Busy Week Ahead for Stan State Men's Basketball

TURLOCK, Calif.---  Stan State men's basketball team has a busy week ahead of them with three games in five days. The Warriors will conclude their three-game home stand on Tuesday, November 15 at 7:30pm when they host Dominican (Calif.).  After Tuesday evening Stan State will travel to Rohnert Park to participate in the Ron Logsdon Basketball Challenge, Presented by Cambria Hotel Sonoma Wine Country this Friday-Saturday, November 18-19.  The Warriors will face Western Oregon on Friday at 5pm and Minnesota State-Mankato on Saturday at 2pm.

WARRIORS IN REVIEW: Stan State went 1-1 last weekend in the Stanislaus State Crossover Classic.  The Warriors lost to Point Loma 73-62 on Friday evening and then came back to defeat Fresno Pacific 65-57 on Saturday evening.  Stan State is averaging 63.5 points per game while giving up 65.0 points per game.  The Warriors are shooting 41.9% from the field while their opponents are shooting 42.3%.  They are holding their opponents to just 27% shooting from three-point land. Stan State is forcing 18.5 turnovers per game while recording 13.0 steals per game.  Kobe Ordonio leads the way with his 18.5 scoring average, 83.3% shooting from the line, four three's made and seven steals.  Marlon Short is averaging 13.0 points per game and has a team high two blocked shots.  Benno Zecic has dished out 13 assists with just seven turnovers and has six steals.  Travion Williams is shooting a team high 83.3% from the field.

LAST WEEK'S GAMES:  The Warriors began the 2022-23 regular season going 1-1 in the Stanislaus State Crossover Classic.  They begin the classic with a 73-62 loss to Point Loma on Friday evening despite Kobe Ordonio's 21 points. Will Pallesi added 10 points off the bench for Stan State.  Benno Zecic dished out seven assists and grabbed six rebounds while Ordonio, Zecic and Marlon Short each had three steals.  They finished with a 65-57 win over Fresno Pacific on Saturday.  Short had a team high 18 points while Ordonio added 16 points and Tony Singleton chipped in 12 points.  The Warriors forced 19 turnovers by the Sunbirds with 14 coming from steals.  Ordonio had four steals and Zecic added three and Short two for the Warriors. 

ALL-TOURNAMENT: Kobe Ordonio was selected to the 2022 Stanislaus State Crossover Classic All-Tournament Team.  He averaged 18.5 points, 3.5 steals, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game in Stan State's two games.  Ordonio shot 50% from the field and 83% from the charity stripe while connecting on four three-point field goal attempts. 

DEFENSE:  Stan State is forcing 18.5 turnovers per game by its opponents while recording 13.0 steals per game.  Kobe Ordonio has seven steals with Benno Zecic recording six steals and Marlon Short five.  The Warriors' opponents are just shooting 42.3% from the field including just 27.1% from three-point land. 

14.0 ASSISTS PER GAME: Stan State is averaging 14.0 assists per game with two players dishing out more assists than turning the ball over in its first two games.  Benno Zecic leads the way with his 13 assists and seven steals while Kobe Ordonio has six assists and five turnovers.  Tony Singleton has four assists with four turnovers while Noel Alexander Jr. and Daniel Ameyaw each have one assist and a turnover. 

DOMINICAN IN REVIEW:  The Penguins enter Tuesday's contest with Stan State with a 1-1 record.  They defeated Sonoma State on Saturday 82-76 and lost to San Francisco State 66-56.  Dominican is averaging 69 points per game while giving up 71 points per game.  The Penguins are being outrebounded 41.5 to 34.0 rebounds per game. Four players are averaging double figures in scoring in Garrett Seibels (16.0 ppg), Marcus McCutcheon (15.5 ppg), PJ Volz (12.0 ppg) and Jaayden Bush (10.0 ppg).  Jorden Josephs is averaging a team high 6.0 rebounds per game McCutcheon leads the Penguins with his 52% shooting from the field while Seibels has made a team leading six three-point field goals.

ALL-TIME SERIES:  Stan State leads the all-time series with the Penguins 5-4 including winning three of the last five meetings.  The Warriors defeated Dominican 61-43 last season in San Rafael.  Benno Zecic ad 13 points, six assists and four steals while Tony Singleton added 12 points.

WESTERN OREGON IN REVIEW:  The Wolves are 1-1 after splitting its two games in the GNAC/CCAA Challenge last weekend in Monmouth, Ore.  They lost to No. 9 Cal State San Bernardino 76-64 and defeated Cal State Monterey Bay 87-80.  Western Oregon is averaging 75.5 points per game while giving up 78 points per game.  The Wolves are being outrebounded 41 to 34.  Four players are averaging double digits in Cameron Cranston (18.5 ppg), John Morrill-Keeler (13.0 ppg), Cameron Benzel (10.0 ppg) and Yosani Clay (10.0 ppg).  Morrill-Keller is shooting a team best 75% from the field and averaging a team leading 5.0 rebounds per game.  Clay is shooting a team leading 45.5% from three-point land.  Benzel leads the team with his seven assists while Cranston is shooting a team high 82.4% from the line.

ALL-TIME SERIES:  Western Oregon won the only meeting between the two teams, 75-72, in San Francisco in 2019.

MINNESOTA STATE:  The Mavericks are 2-0 after their two games in Kansas City, Missouri, in the Central Region Challenge.  They defeated Missouri Southern State 87-73 and Henderson State 84-64.  Minnesota State is averaging 85.5 points per game while giving up 68.5 points per game. The Mavericks are outrebounding their opponents 41.5 to 33.5.  Four players are averaging double digits in scoring in Malik Willingham (22.0 ppg), Harrison Braudis (18.0 ppg), Brady Williams (13.5 ppg) and Kyreese Willingham (12.5 ppg).  Willingham leads the team with his 42.9% shooting from three's and his 100% shooting from the line.  He also has a team high 12 assists, five steals and 7.5 rebounding average.

ALL-TIME SERIES:  This is the first time that the Mavericks and Warriors have faced each other during the season.

UP NEXT:  After Saturday's game, Stan State will return home on Tuesday, November 22 at 5pm when the Warriors host Academy of Art.  After the Thanksgiving holiday, Stan State will travel to Chico, Calif., to begin the CCAA season with a 3pm tip-off with Chico State.
