Stan State’s Darren Holman Named USTFCCCA/NCAA Division II Women’s Cross Country West Region Coach of the Year

NEW ORLEANS, La---  The awards keep coming in for the No 7 Stan State women's cross country team. As announced by the United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), Stan State head women's cross country coach Darren Holman was named the USTFCCCA/NCAA Division II Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year. 

This is the second post-season honor that Holman has received earlier this month, he was named the CCAA Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year.  Holman, in his seventh year as head coach at Stanislaus State, led the Warriors to the team title at the West Region Championships with 91 points. The Warriors also won the team title at the CCAA Cross Country Championships with 39 points, Cougar Challenge with 28 points and Kim Duyst Invitational with 18 points.

For the second consecutive year, Stan State qualified for the NCAA Division II National Cross Country Championships. This time, the Warriors are going as West Regional Champions. The 2022 NCAA Division II Cross Country
Championships are set for December 2 at Chambers Creek Regional Park in University Place, Wash., at 11:15 am. The race will be streamed live on www.ncaa.com

Four Warrior runners earned All-West region honors last week by placing in the top twenty-five at regionals in Kaela Dishion, Najwa Chouati, Kayden Legan and Yahaira Zuniga. Dishion placed fifth with her time of 21:13.8 followed by Chouati in sixth place with a time of 21:23.7. Finishing in tenth place was Legan with a time of 21:32.4 followed by Zuniga in 18th place with her time of 21:43.

All four of these Warriors earned All-CCAA honors on November 5 as they finished in the top ten at the CCAA Championships in Carmel, Calif. Stan State captured its second CCAA title while Dishion became a two-time CCAA Individual Champion.
