Stan State women's and men's basketball teams to host a pair of CCAA DH's this Week

THIS WEEK IN WARRIOR SPORTS

STAN STATE'S BASKETBALL TEAMS TO HOST TWO CCAA DOUBLEHEADERS THIS WEEK

Both Stan State men's and women's basketball teams will return home this Thursday and Saturday, December 1 and 3 for pair of conference games at The Fitz.  Thursday evening, the Warriors will host Cal State San Marcos.  Game times are 5:30pm for the women and 7:30pm for the men.  Saturday afternoon, Stan State will host Cal State Los Angeles.  Games are at 1pm for the women and 3pm for the men. 
 
SEVENTH RANKED WARRIOR HARRIERS PREPARING FOR 2022 NCAA DIVISION II NATIONALS
The seventh ranked Stan State women's cross country team will travel to University Center, Wash., this week to participate in the 2022 NCAA Division II National Women's Cross Country Championships.  The nationals are set for this Friday, December 2 at 11:15am at Chambers Creek Regional Park as part of the NCAA Division II Fall Festival hosted by Seattle Pacific University. 
 
MEN'S BASKETBALL FINISH 1-1 DURING THANKSGIVING WEEK
The Warrior men's basketball team went 1-1 this week to go to 2-5 overall and 0-1 in the CCAA.  Stan State started its week with a 75-69 non-conference victory over then undefeated Academy of Art at home.  Marlon Short recorded his first of two double-doubles with 21 points and 10 rebounds.  Kobe Ordonio added 17 points for the Warriors and Noel Alexander Jr. chipped in 10 points.  The Warriors lost their CCAA opener on Saturday at chico State, 64-55.  Short lead the way for Stan State with 16 points and 10 rebounds.  Benno Zecic chipped in 12 points while Ordonio added 11 points and Alexander scored 10 points.
 
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM 3-3 HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND
Stan State women's basketball team went 1-1 this week to have their record go to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in the CCAA.  The Warriors began their week with a 67-60 non-conference win over Fresno Pacific on Wednesday.  Makayla Rose had a season high 23 points for Stan State with Joia Armstrong recording a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.  Stan State finished its week with an 85-70 loss at Chico State in both teams' CCAA opener.  Rose paced the Warriors with 22 points. Armstrong added 14 points.  Also scoring in double digits for the Warriors were Da'Myiah Lewis with 12 points and Alexis Woodson with 10 points. 
 
MORE POST SEASON HONORS FOR THE WARRIOR WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY TEAM
Four members of the seventh ranked Stan State women's cross country team were named to the USTFCCCA All-West Region Team in Kaela Dishion, Najwa Chouati, Kayden Legan and Yahaira Zuniga.  These four finished in the top 25at the NCAA Division II West Regional Championships on November 19 to earn All-Region honors.  Those four led the way for the Warriors to the West Regional Championship.  Head coach Darren Holman was named the USTFCCCA/NCAA Division II West Region Coach of the Year.
 
ROSE AND SHORT ARE THIS WEEK'S STAN STATE WARRIOR STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
A pair of Stan State men's and women's basketball players in Makayla Rose and Marlon Short are this week's Stan State Warrior Student-Athletes of the Week.
 
0Rose averaged 22.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals in the Warriors' 1-1 week. She shot 47% from the field including 38% from three-point land and was eight-for-13 from the line.  The freshman guard had back-to-back 20-point games including a season high 23 points in the Warriors' win over Fresno Pacific.






0Short averaged 18.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals, 1.5 blocked shots and 1.5 assists per game for Stan State who went 1-1 last week.  He shot 48% from the field including 50% from three-point land while going seven-for-nine from the charity stripe. The sophomore guard had back-to-back double-double performances for his first two of the season.
