Warriors to Continue Five-Game Home Stand this Week Versus East Bay and Dominguez Hills

TURLOCK, Calif.---  Stan State men's basketball team will continue their season long five-game home stand this Thursday, January 5 and Saturday, January 7 at The Fitz when the Warriors host Cal State East Bay and Cal State Dominguez Hills.  Stan State will entertain Cal State East Bay this Thursday at 7:30pm and Cal State Dominguez Hills this Saturday at 3pm. 

WARRIORS IN REVIEW:  The Warriors are 4-8 overall and 2-4 in the CCAA after defeating Chico State 68-65 on New Year's Day.  Stan State is averaging 65.8 points per game while giving up 72.2 points per game.  The Warriors are outrebounding their opponents 34.8 to 32.1.  Two players are averaging double digits in Kobe Ordonio (15.0 ppg) and Marlon Short (13.3 ppg).  Ordonio leads the team with his 23 steals while Short has blocked a team high six shots.  Travion Williams is averaging a team leading 6.4 rebounds per game and Daniel Ameyaw is shooting a team best 52.2% from the field.  Benno Zecic has dished out a team high 79 assists. Will Pallesi leads the team with his 22 three-point field goals made and 36.1% shooting from beyond the arc.  Short also leads the Warriors with his 78.1% shooting from the line.

LAST GAME:  Stan State began its season long five-game home stand with a 68-65 win over Chico State on New Year's Day.  Three Warriors scored in double digits in Benno Zecic (13 points), Marlon Short (13 points) and Kobe Ordonio (11 points).  Zecic just missed a triple double as he dished out nine assists, grabbed eight rebounds to go along with his four steals and two blocked shots.  Short scored what proved to be the game-winner with 17 seconds left in regulation while Will Pallesi hit two free throws with 1.8 seconds on the clock to seal the win.   

DOUBLE-DOUBLE:  Marlon Short and Benno Zecic each have recorded double-doubles this season for the Warriors.  Short has three this season including at Cal Poly Humboldt on Saturday (18-points, 10-rebounds).  His other two came against Academy of Art (Nov. 22, 21-points, 10-rebounds) and at Chico State (Nov. 26, 16 points, 10-rebounds). For his career, Short has six double-doubles.  Zecic recorded his first double-double of the season in the Warriors' game on December 1 against Cal State San Marcos.  The Alameda native scored 10 points and dished out 10 assists for Stan State. 

TOP 25 IN THE NATION:  The duo of Benno Zecic and Travion Williams are in the top 25 in the nation in NCAA Division II in assists and offensive rebounds per game.  Zecic is tied for seventh with his 79 total assists and fourth with his 6.58 assists per game average. Williams tied for 23 with his 3.4 offensive rebounds per game average.

TOP HALF IN THE CCAA: As a team, Stan State is in the top half of the conference in five individual statistical categories.  The Warriors are third in steals (7.8 steals per game), fifth in three-point field goal percentage defense (34.1%) and sixth in scoring defense (72.2 points per game), turnover margin (+1.6) and assist/turnover ratio (+0.96).

TOP 15 IN THE CCAA:  Five Warriors in Kobe Ordonio, Will Pallesi, Marlon Short, Travion Williams and Benno Zecic are in the top 15 in the CCAA in ten statistical categories.  Ordonio is fourth in steals, sixth in free throw percentage, 11th in scoring, 12th in minutes played and 13th in three-point field goals made per game.  Zecic is first in assists, fourth in minutes played, seventh in assist/turnover ratio and ninth in steals.  Short is 15th in scoring and field goal percentage.  Pallesi is ninth in three-point field goals made and Williams is tenth in rebounding. 

PIONEERS IN REVIEW: Cal State East Bay is 4-8 overall and 2-4 in the CCAA after losing 79-76 to Cal State Dominguez Hills at home on New Year's Day.  The Pioneers are averaging 67.7 points per game while giving up 73.9 points per game.  They are being outrebounded 336.5 to 32.0.  Two players are averaging double digits in scoring in Grady Lewis (16.8 ppg) and Dimitrios Klonaras (13.1 ppg).  Lewis leads the team with his 62.6% shooting from the field, 6.8 rebounding average and nine blocked shots.  Klonaras has made a team leading 17 three-point field goals, shooting a team best 73.2% from the charity stripe and recorded a team high 19 steals.  Garrett Pascoe has dished out a team high 56 assists and shooting a team leading 36.1% from three-point range. 

ALL-TIME SERIES: Stan State leads the all-time series with the Pioneers 22-10 and has won four of the last six meetings between the two teams.  The Warriors won the last meeting 68-66 in Turlock on Feb. 24, 2022, when Marlon Short hit the game-winning three in the final seconds off a pass from Benno Zecic.  Short finished with 14 points while Tony Singleton had 12 points and Matt Bender chipped in 11 points.  Travion Williams had 11 rebounds to go with his seven points.  DJ Sanders paced the Pioneers with 16 points and was one of four players in double digits for East Bay. 

CAL STATE DOMINGUEZ HILLS IN REVIEW: The Toros are 6-5 overall and 2-3 in the CCAA after defeating Cal State East Bay 79-76 in Hayward on New Year's Day.  They are averaging 71.0 points per game while giving up 70.2 points per game.  CSUDH is being outrebounded 37.5 to 36.1.  Six players are averaging double digits in scoring in Cameron Barry (14.6 ppg), DJ Guest (12.8 ppg), Uriyah Rojas (12.0 ppg), Jordan Hilstock (11.8 ppg), David Cheatom (10.3 ppg) and Andre Ball (10.3 ppg).  Guest leads the team with his 8.5 rebounding average and 51.7% shooting from the field.  Barry has made a team high 28 three-point field goals and Hilstock is shooting a team high 40.6% from three-point range.  Damien Miller leads the team with his 82.6% shooting from the line and 43 assists.  Hilstock has recorded a team leading 16 steals and Hunter Seymour has blocked a team high 14 shots.

ALL-TIME SERIES: Cal State Dominguez Hills leads the all-time series 15-11 with the series being at 3-3 in the last six meetings.  The Warriors won last year's meeting on Feb. 26, 2022, in Turlock, 72-58.  Tony Singleton paced the Warriors with 21 points while Will Pallesi had 19 points and Marlon Short chipped in 12 points.
