Warriors to Finish Season Beginning Six-Game Road Trip at Academy of Art

TURLOCK, Calif.---  Stan State will travel to San Francisco this Wednesday, Nov. 22 for a 3pm scheduled non-conference game with Academy of Art at Kezar Pavilion.  This will be the Warriors' sixth straight road game to begin the 2023-24 season.  Stan State enters Wednesday's game with a 3-2 record after going 2-1 last week.  
 
WARRIORS:  Stan State enters Wednesday's matinee game with Academy of Art 3-2 after going 2-1 last week.  The Warriors defeated Dominican 63-60 and Western Oregon 82-77 before losing 69-57 to Sioux Falls (SD).  They are averaging 67.4 points per game while giving up 68.2 points per game.  Stan State is outrebounding its opponents 39.8 to 38.4 while forcing 14.6 turnovers per game.
 
Dontrell Hewlett leads the team with his 11.8 scoring average followed by John Wade III's 11.3 average.  Daniel Ameyaw is averaging a team high 7.2 rebounds per game to go with his team high seven blocked shots.  Jonathan Tchengang is shooting a team high 53.8% from the field while Tony Singleton has connected on a team best ten three-point field goals.  Singleton leads the team with his 83.3% shooting from the line. Wade III leads the team with his 11 assists and 12 steals. 
 
STAN STATE HEAD COACH PAUL TREVOR: Coach Trevor enters his seventh year as the head coach at Stan State and 14th year overall coaching.  He is 174-158 in his fourteen years including 57-62 on the sidelines in Turlock.  During his 14-year coaching career, Trevor has coached 27 All-CCAA honorees including eight First Team selections and one CCAA Newcomer of the Year.  Two players have been named to the preseason All-American Teams with one receiving All-American honors and three All-Region honors.  In 2016-17 at SF State, he guided the Gators the NCAA Division II Tournament for the first time in 23 years and he was named the NABC West Region Co-Coach of the Year while the Gators were ranked  No. 22 in the end of the season national NABC rankings.  
 
LAST WEEK ON THE ROAD IN THE NORTH BAY: The Warriors went 2-1 in their three games in the North Bay. Stan State started with a 63-60 victory at Dominican (Calif.) on Nov. 14.  Dontrell Hewlett paced the Warriors with 14 points with Micah Boone and Tony Singleton each chipping in 11 points. Stan State held the Penguins to just 39% shooting from the field including just 14% from three-point range.  
 
At the Ron Logsdon Basketball Challenge in Rohnert Park, Stan State went 1-1.  The Warriors defeated Western Oregon 82-77 as they outscored the Wolves 50-38 in the second half.  Five players scored in double digits led by Singleton's 16 points.  Hewlett and Boone each chipped in 15 points.  John Wade III scored 10 points and Daniel Ameyaw had 10 points and 10 rebounds.  
The Warriors finished their week with a 69-57 loss to Sioux Falls (SD) as Hewlett had 14 points to lead the way for Stan State.  
 
DOUBLE-DOUBLE: Daniel Ameyaw recorded his first double-double as a Warrior in Stan State's 82-77 victory over Western Oregon on Saturday.  Ameyaw was four-for-seven from the field and two-for-three from the charity stripe.  He grabbed four offensive and six defensive rebounds to go with his five assists, two steals, and one assist. For the season, the sophomore post player is shooting 48.4% from the field and 72.7% from the line.  He has seven assists, seven blocked shots, and three steals to go with his 7.2 rebounding average.  
 
WARRIORS' BENCH: In every game this season, the Warriors' bench has outscored their opponents. Point Loma (36-8), Fresno Pacific (46-14), Dominican (47-9), Western Oregon (35-13), and Sioux Falls (35-11).  Stan State has used four different line-ups this season with the only one consistently in the starting five. Being Jonathan Tchengang.  Daniel Ameyaw has started in four of the five games and Baljot Sahi and Cam Walker each starting in three games.  With two starts are Micah Boone and Tony Singleton.  
 
NATIONALLY RANKED:  John Wade III is tenth in the nation with his 3.0 steals per game average and 11thwith his 12 total steals.  Daniel Ameyaw is 35th in the nation with his seven total blocks entering this week's game at Academy of Art.  
 
RANKED IN THE CCAA:  As a team, the Warriors are in the half of the conference in nine statistical categories.  They are second in rebounding (39.8 rpg), offensive rebounding (12.8 rpg), and defensive rebounding (28.0 rpg). Stan State is third in free throw percentage (73.1%), fourth in steals per game (8.6), fourth in threes made per game (7.2), fifth in rebounding margin (+3.8), fifth in three-point field goal percentage defense (31.3%), and sixth in field goal percentage defense (40.8%).
 
ACADEMY OF ART:  The Urban Knights are 1-2 entering their game with the Warriors this Wednesday afternoon.  Academy of Art began the season 1-1 losing 64-62 to Sonoma State and defeating SF State 79-66.  Chico State defeated the Urban Knights 86-75 in Chico on Saturday.  
They are averaging 72.0 points per game while giving up 72.0 points per game.  Academy of Art is being outrebounded 39.3 to 29.7.  Four players are averaging double digits in scoring in Jamal Fuller (15.7 ppg), Latrell Williams (15.0 ppg), Isaiah Williams (15.0 ppg), and Rodney Munson (10.3 ppg). Latrell Williams leads the team with his 6.0 rebounding average and 51.4% shooting from the field.  Fuller is shooting a team high 100% from the line while Eli Taylor has dished out a team high 13 assists.  Isaiah Williams leads Art U with his ten steals, 60% shooting from three-point land, and nine made threes.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES:  Stan State leads the all-time series with the Urban Knights 4-1 including defeating Art U 75-69 on Nov. 22, 2022, in Turlock.  Noel Alexander Jr. had 10 points and six rebounds for the Warriors, who recorded 10 steals in the game.  Stan State held the Urban Knights to just 39% shooting from the field, 26% shooting from three-point land, and forced 18 turnovers.

CCAA/HOME OPENER: The Warriors will have their 2023-24 CCAA and home opener on Thursday, Nov. 30 at 7:30 p.m., when they host Cal State East Bay at The Fitzpatrick Arena.
