Warriors Back Outside for Sunbird Invitational

FRESNO, Calif. – At long last, Stan State's Men's Outdoor Track & Field team got the chance to compete for the first time this year at the Sunbird Invitational hosted by Fresno Pacific. The team collected nine personal best performances and seven top-5 finishes.
 
Sophomore Trent Lauderdale earned a first place finish in the Men's 400m Hurdles with a new PR of 53.45. This is a new Stan State ninth all-time mark in school history. His time was just .13 seconds shy of the NCAA provisional standard. His teammate, freshman Luis Mincey, came in just a behind him at 57.36. Mincey also crossed the finish in the open 400m Dash at 52.39. Senior Andrew Vazquez ran a 1:54.62 to place second in the Men's 800m, he then doubled back in the 1500m with another second place finish of 3:58.98. His teammate redshirt junior Jose Garcia also cracked the top-10 with a ninth place time of 4:01.15.
 
In the Men's 3000m, the Warriors placed four runners in the top-10. Senior Cristian Alcantar placed fifth (8:33.29), senior Medhane Woldu at seventh (8:35.63), Garcia at eighth (8:36.72), and Cooper Freeman at tenth (8:41.66).
 
Sophomore transfer Lamont Lane took sixth in Discus with a toss of 35.16m, while the Hammer Throw was commanded by junior Jason Lindsay who threw 51.98m to place third. Freshman Luke McMahon's 49.81m throw landed him in sixth place, while Lane followed in seventh at 47.65m. In Pole Vault, Andy Huynh and Jose Bravo finished in fifth and eight respectively with vaults of 4.20m and 3.60m.
 
"Today was a very good start to our outdoor season," said Warrior Head Coach Troy Johnson. "We are excited to see the men in competition as they build to get championship ready. Great day by all event areas."
 
UP NEXT: The team will have some time to kill for the next two weeks, as they prepare for their home meet Friday and Saturday, March 3rd and 4th in the Kim Duyst Invitational at the Al Brenda Track.
