Stan State Heads Back on the Road to Sonoma State

2/21/2023 3:55:00 PM

RECAP OF LAST WEEK: Stan State started off their home slate with just one series win over Cal State East Bay in the 3-1 series. They game one with a 7-2 victory, and lost their last three games down the stretch.

UPDATE ON WARRIORS: The Warriors are currently 3-4 with a 1-3 record in the CCAA after their meeting with Cal State East Bay. This week's series pins them up against Sonoma State, who is 10-1 so far this year and undefeated in their first four conference games.

Batting a .328 as a team, Stan State is 2nd in the CCAA behind the Seawolves, but are among the lower half of the conference in both hits and runs. Having a much smaller sample size of games played than the rest of the conference, the Warriors still have plenty of time to connect on their at bats and get runs on the board.

The team's three-headed snake of pitchers; Kyndra Marzorini, Jessell Lewis, and Victoria Alarcon, have a combined ERA of 1.92 ERA in their first seven games this season. The trio has pitched a total of 32 strikeouts. Avery Fitch, who entered the Warriors' rotation in the last week, has only pitching an inning of relief. As a batter however, she also leads the conference in on base percentage (.733).

Stan State's fielding percentage has remained at .959, with a combined 51 total assists. C Karli DalBianco leads the team in putouts with 40 on the year, while 1B Payton Applequist follows right behind with 25 putouts and two double plays.

UPDATE ON SONOMA STATE: The 10-1 Seawolves are currently on pace to be one of the toughest teams in the CCAA. With a nine-game winning streak, they hold the best batting average and are second in the conference for both runs and hits this season. Senior OF Anna Buescher-Zoia is Sonoma State's leader in runs, with a grand total of 14 through the early portion of the year.
