Women’s Soccer Returns to the Pitch with a Pair of Matches in Hawai’i

TURLOCK, Calif.---  Stan State, who went 2-0 last week at home, will return to the pitch this Friday and Sunday, September 15 and 17 for a pair of matches in the State of Hawai'i.  The Warriors will face the Vulcans of Hawai'i Hilo this Friday in Hilo at 3pm (HT).  They will conclude their week with a 11am (HT) starting match with Chaminade at Hilo.

RECAP OF 2-0 HOME STAND:  Stan State went 2-0 in its first two home matches of the regular season this weekend.  The Warriors started their weekend on Friday with a 2-1 victory over Southern Oregon.  Marivic Lek-Miro and Kayla Perez each scored goals for the victors.  Natalia Ochoa had three saves in goal for Stan State.  Stan State finished the weekend with a 2-1 victory over Dominican (Calif.) on Sunday evening.  Alex Brewah scored the Warriors' first goal off a cross from Haylee Heffner and Sunny Mancilla.  The Warriors' second goal came from Amber Pon off a double assist from Makeila Yancey and Brewah.  Heffner scored the third goal off a cross from Sabrina Cabrera as the Warriors improved to 2-1-1.   
 
UPDATE ON THE WARRIORS:  Stan State is now 2-1-1 after a 2-0 home stand.  Alexis Brewah and Haylee Heffner lead the Warriors each with three points (one goal, one assist).  Three Warriors have scored a goal each in Marivic Lek-Miro, Kayla Perez, and Amber Pon.  Stan State also has three players each with an assist in Sabrina Cabrera, Sunny Mancilla, and Makeila Yancey.  Natalia Ochoa has posted a 0.95 goals against average with a .727 saves percentage.  Ochoa has eight saves this season.  Malia Allen has a 1.000% saves percentage with a 0.00 goals against average and two saves.

HEAD COACH GABRIEL BOLTON:  In his 19th season at the helm of the Warriors, Bolton is 196-104-38. Last season, the Warriors went 10-4-4 overall and 7-2-2 in the CCAA and were CCAA co-regular season champions.  Alexis Brewah was the 2022 CCAA Newcomer of the Year and Sabrina Cabrera was the CAA Midfielder of the Year.  Brewah and Cabrera each were named to the First Team All-CCAA and the All-Region Team.  Four Warriors were selected to the Honorable Mention Team in Alexia EstradaSummer EnglandSunny Mancilla, and Jocelyn Lopez.  In 2013, Bolton was named the NSCAA West Region Coach of the Year and the CCAA Coach of the Year.  He is the Warriors Women's Soccer All-Time Winningest Coach. 
 
Bolton has guided the Warriors to nine postseason appearances, including four NCAA Tournaments and nine California Collegiate Athletic Association championship tournaments. He led the program to an unprecedented seven consecutive post-season appearances from 2010-16, including two CCAA Tournament titles and the 2014 NCAA West Region Championship.
  
PICKED TO WIN THE CCAA:  Stan State women's soccer is picked to win the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) according to the 2023 CCAA Preseason Women's Soccer Poll that was released by the conference office today.  The Warriors, under the direction of head coach Gabriel Bolton, received four of the twelve first place votes.
 
CCAA STATS:  Natalia Ochoa is fifth in the CCAA with her 0.95 goals against average heading into this weekend's matches in Hawai'i.  
 
HAWAI'I HILO IN REVIEW:  Heading into their match with the Warriors on Friday afternoon, the Vulcans are 1-0-1.  They haven't played a match since they played to a scoreless draw with Northwest Nazarene at home on September 5.  Their first match was a 2-1 victory over then No. 22 University of Colorado Colorado Springs.  Teani Arakawa has scored both Vulcans' two goals.  Filippa Granald has UHH's only assist.  Phoebe Barnes has a 0.50 goals against average with five saves, one shutout, and a .857 saves percentage.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES:  The Vulcans lead the all-time series with the Warriors, 1-0.  Stan State lost to Hawai'i Hilo 1-0 last season in Turlock.  Jodi Little scored the game-winning goal in the 44th minute on a penalty kick on September 10, 2022.  
 
CHAMINADE:  The Silverswords enter their match with Hawai'i Pacific on Wednesday with a 1-0-2 record.  They started the season with scoreless draw with Northwest Nazarene.  Chaminade went 1-0-1 in its trip to Colorado over the weekend.  Western Colorado lost to the Silverswords 1-0.  Chaminade played to a 1-1 draw with Fort Lewis on Sunday.  Delaney Bontin and Kenna Kiefer each have scored a goal for the Silverswords.  Bailey Loria has an assist.  Naomi Takota has a 0.33 goals against average with seven saves, two shutouts, and a .875 saves percentage.
 
FIRST TIME:  Sunday morning's match between Chaminade and Stan State will be the first meeting between the two teams.

UP NEXT:  After Sunday's match with Chaminade, the Warriors will begin a three-match home stand with a rare 7pm non-conference match-up with Chico State on Youth Soccer Night on Saturday, September 23.  The home stand will continue Friday, September 29 with their CCAA opener against Cal State San Marcos.  This will be Student Affairs Night.  Two days later, Stan State will host Cal State East Bay at 2pm in its Kick Cancer Match.
