Volleyball to host Humboldt and Sonoma this weekend

Warriors Return Home to Host Cal Poly Humboldt and Sonoma State

TURLOCK, Calif.---  After beginning their CCAA season on the road in Southern California, the Stan State Volleyball team will return to Fitzpatrick Arena this Friday and Saturday, September 22 and 23 for a pair of CCAA matches.  The Warriors will host Cal Poly Humboldt on Campers Night this Friday, September 22 at 5pm. On Saturday, September 23 at 2pm, Stan State will host Sonoma State.  
 
RECAP OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA:  Stan State went 0-2 last week in its first two matches of the CCAA season.  The Warriors began their two-match road trip to Southern California on Friday afternoon with a four-set loss (14-25, 25-23, 22-25, 16-25) to Cal State Dominguez Hills in Carson.  Eyriana Eatmon recorded her first double-double of the season and twelfth of her career with 15 digs and 12 assists.  Mariah Iosua had 10 kills and Gabby Rawson had a match high 23 digs.  Stan State traveled to Los Angeles on Saturday afternoon and lost in four sets (18-25, 21-25, 25-18, 21-25) to No. 21 Cal State Los Angeles.  Iosua had 11 kills to go with Samaya Royal match high five combined blocks.  Rawson recorded 19 digs and Haley Burdo had 19 assists for the Warriors. 
 
UPDATE ON THE WARRIORS:  Stan State is 5-5 overall and 0-2 in the CCAA heading into its Friday match with Cal Poly Humboldt.  Gabby Rawson leads the team with her 212 digs and 5.89 digs per set average.  Haley Burdo has 188 assists with Eyriana Eatmon recording 133 assists.  Eatmon leads the team with 14 service aces followed by Burdo and Mariah Iosua each with 11.  Iosua has recorded a team leading 88 kills and Alex Byrd has a team high .292 hitting percentage.  Byrd leads the team with her 44 blocks (eight solos, 36 assists) followed by Autumn Kirby with 31 (four solos, 27 assists), and Emily Vander Weide's 22 (all assists). 
 
HEAD COACH LAUREN FLOWERS:  In her first season in 2022 at the helm of the Warrior volleyball team became Stan State's all-time winningest team with its .655 winning percentage. The Warriors finished with a 19-10 overall record with the 19 wins tying for the most in school history.  They finished in sixth place and qualified for the CCAA Volleyball Championships.  In her two seasons, Flowers is 24-15. With the Warriors' win over then No. 21 Alaska Anchorage in the Denali State Bank Ice Block Classic, Flowers has guided Stan State so three victories over top 25 teams.  In 2022, the Warriors defeated then No. 25 Winona State (3-0 in Carson) and No. 13 Cal State San Bernardino (3-2 in Turlock).
 
MOVIN' ON UP:  Haley Burdo is now seventh with 104 service aces and eighth with 1330 assists on Stan State's top ten career list.  Alex Byrd is eighth on the Warriors' all-time solo block career list.  Gabby Rawson is just four digs from moving into the Stan State top ten list in digs.  Rawson has 795 digs in her career at Stan State.  
 
DOUBLE-DOUBLES:  With her double-double at Cal State Dominguez Hills, Eyriana Eatmon has twelve double-doubles in her career at Stan State.  Other Warriors with double-doubles in their career are the following:  Haley Burdo (26 career, two season), Ellison Weaver (five career, one season), and Mariah Iosua (two career, one season).  


HONORS:  Emily Vander Weide was named to the seven-team Stanislaus State Labor Day Volleyball Tournament. For the third time in her career, Gabby Rawson was named the CCAA Defensive Player of the Week for the week of August 28-September 3 and the week of September 4-10. She has been named the Defensive Player of the Week five times during her career as a Warrior.  Rawson was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Denali State Bank Ice Block Classic in Alaska.
 
AMONGST THE CONFERENCE LEADERS:  Gabby Rawson leads the CCAA with her 5.89 digs per set average and 212 total digs.  Haley Burdo is ninth in the conference with her 180 total assists. Burdo is tenth with her 5.08 assists per set average.
 
NATION'S LEADERS:  Gabby Rawson is eighth with her 5.89 digs per set average and 15th with her 212 total digs. Alex Byrd is 29th with her 44 total blocks heading into this week.
 
UPDATE ON THE LUMBERJACKS:  Cal Poly Humboldt is 3-7 overall and 0-2 in the CCAA after dropping both of its matches last week at home to San Francisco State (25-22, 21-25, 25-18, 18-25, 13-15) and No. 10 Cal State San Bernardino (20-25, 22-25, 12-25).  Awelina Fakalata leads the team with her 140 kills while Avery Spoja has a team high .308 hitting percentage.  Lindsay McLaughlin is second on the team with 113 kills and leads the team with her 18 service aces.  Kyra Slavik has recorded a team high 345 assists with Mina Barajas leading Humboldt with 117 digs.  Avery McIntyre has recorded a team leading 38 blocks.  
 
ALL-TIME SERIES:  Stan State leads the all-time series with Cal Poly Humboldt 19-10. The Warriors have won the last ten meetings between the two teams including 3-0 (25-12, 25-22, 25-14) last year on September 29, 2022, in Arcata.
 
UPDATE ON THE SEAWOLVES:  Sonoma State enters its Friday evening contest at Chico State with a 7-2 overall record and a 2-0 CCAA record.  The Seawolves defeated then No. 10 Cal State San Bernardino (25-23, 25-22, 25-22) and San Francisco State (25-20, 13-20, 25-22, 25-22) in Rohnert Park this weekend.  Kiana Richardson leads the team with her 82 kills followed by Jen Trephani with 80.  Leilani Hallman hit for a team high .392 hitting percentage. Trephan leads the team with her 151 assists and is tied with Brynna Slayton each with 13 service aces.  Riley Beyma has recorded a team leading 108 digs.  Hallman has a team high 32 blocks. 
 
ALL-TIME SERIES:  Sonoma State leads the all-time series with the Warriors 34-7 including going 7-3 in the last ten meetings against Stan State.  The Seawolves won 3-0 (13-25, 24-26, 12-25) on October 1, 2022, in Rohnert Park.  The last Warrior victory was on October 5, 2019, a five-set victory over the Seawolves in Turlock.

UP NEXT:  Stan State will commence on a four-match road trip after Saturday's match with Sonoma State.  The Warriors will face No. 20 Cal Poly Pomona (Friday, September 29, 3pm), Cal State San Marcos (Saturday, September 30, 3pm), Cal State East Bay (Friday, October 6, 5pm), and Cal State Monterey Bay (Saturday, October 7 at 3pm) before returning home on Monday, October 9 for a 1pm match-up with No. 20 Chaminade.
