Warriors Begin Three-Match Home Stand this Saturday Evening Hosting Chico State

TURLOCK, Calif.---  Stan State women's soccer team will return to the pitch this Saturday, September 23 at 7pm when the Warriors host Chico State on Youth Soccer Night at Warrior Stadium.  This will be the beginning of a three-match for the Warriors as they will host Cal State San Marcos (Fri., Sept. 29 at 7pm) and Cal State East Bay (Sun., Oct. 2 at 2pm).

RECAP OF TRIP TO HAWAI'I:  The Warriors went 1-1 in their two matches in Hawai'i over the weekend.  They started the trip with a 3-1 loss at the University of Hawai'i Hilo last Friday afternoon.  The Vulcans scored three unanswered goals before Stan State scored at the 67th minute on a goal by Alexis Brewah off a pass from Sunny Mancilla.  The Warriors rebounded with a 1-0 victory over Chaminade on Sunday morning.  Brewah scored the game-winner with less than four minutes left on a long ball from Marivic Lek-Miro.  Natalia Ochoa and Malia Allen each played 45 minutes in goal and had two saves for the Warriors.     
 
UPDATE ON THE WARRIORS:  Stan State is now 3-2-1 entering its non-conference match-up with Chico State on Saturday evening.  Alexis Brewah leads the team with her seven points (three goals, one assist).  She also has a game-winning goal along with Amber Pon and Kayla Perez.  Sunny Mancilla leads the team with her two assists.  Four Warriors have scored a goal apiece in Haylee Heffner, Marivik Lek-Miro, Amber Pon, and Kayla Perez.  Besides Brewah and Mancilla, Lek-Miro along with Makeila Yancey and Sabrina Cabrera have assists this season.  Natalia Ochoa has posted a 1.29 goals against average in goal with a .700 saves percentage and 14 saves in six matches.  Malia Allen has a 0.00 goals against average in three matches with a 1.000 saves percentage and four saves.

HEAD COACH GABRIEL BOLTON:  In his 19th season at the helm of the Warriors, Bolton is 197-105-38. Last season, the Warriors went 10-4-4 overall and 7-2-2 in the CCAA and were CCAA co-regular season champions.  Alexis Brewah was the 2022 CCAA Newcomer of the Year and Sabrina Cabrera was the CAA Midfielder of the Year.  Brewah and Cabrera each were named to the First Team All-CCAA and the All-Region Team.  Four Warriors were selected to the Honorable Mention Team in Alexia EstradaSummer EnglandSunny Mancilla, and Jocelyn Lopez.  In 2013, Bolton was named the NSCAA West Region Coach of the Year and the CCAA Coach of the Year.  He is the Warriors Women's Soccer All-Time Winningest Coach. 
 
Bolton has guided the Warriors to nine postseason appearances, including four NCAA Tournaments and nine California Collegiate Athletic Association championship tournaments. He led the program to an unprecedented seven consecutive post-season appearances from 2010-16, including two CCAA Tournament titles and the 2014 NCAA West Region Championship.
  
PICKED TO WIN THE CCAA:  Stan State women's soccer is picked to win the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) according to the 2023 CCAA Preseason Women's Soccer Poll that was released by the conference office today.  The Warriors, under the direction of head coach Gabriel Bolton, received four of the twelve first place votes.
 
CCAA STATS:  Alexis Brewah is tied for third in goals (three) and goals per game (.500) in the recent CCAA statistics report.  She is tied for fourth in points (seven) and sixth in points per game (1.17).  Sunny Mancilla is tied for fifth in assists (two) and tied for sixth in assists per game (0.33).  Natalia Ochoa is seventh in saves (14), ninth in goals against average (1.29), and tenth in saves per game (2.33).  
 
 
UPDATE ON CHICO STATE:  The Wildcats are 4-2 entering their match with Stan State this Saturday.  They went 1-1 last week in Southern California with a 2-0 loss at Azusa Pacific and a 3-2 defeat of the Biola Eagles.  Jiana Martin leads Chico State with her three goals, one assist, and seven points. Martin has recorded two game-winning goals this season.  Avery Pieri is next on the team with two goals which were both game-winning goals for four points.  Natalie Mendoza and Mikayla Robertson each have a goal and an assist.  Piper Matson and Klayre Barres each have scored a goal while Summer Baron, Hannah Pieri, and Jordan Brail each have an assist.  Emma Hoffmann has posted a 1.40 goals against average in five matches with 31 saves and a .816 saves percentage.  Peyton Johnson has a 2.00 goals against average in one match with two saves and a .500 saves percentage.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES:  Chico State leads the all-time series 15-13-9, but Stan State owns a 4-3-3 advantage in the last ten matches.  The two teams have played scoreless ties the last two seasons on October 9, 2022, in Turlock and October 17, 2021, in Chico.  Stan State defeated the Wildcats 2-1 on October 30, 2019, in Turlock when Sadie Ortiz scored the game-winner with 15 minutes left in regulation.
