TURLOCK, Calif.--- The Warrior women's soccer team will begin California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play this week with a pair of home matches against Cal State San Marcos and Cal State East Bay. Stan State will host Cal State San Marcos on Stan State Student Affairs Night this Fri., Sept. 29 at 7pm. The Warriors will face Cal State East Bay this Sun., Oct. 1 at 2pm in their Annual Kick Cancer Match.
HEART BREAKER: The Warriors lost 2-1 to Chico State to finish off non-conference play on Saturday night. The Wildcats scored with less than five minutes left in the match after Stan State tied the match.
Abby Martinez scored her first goal of the season on a cross from
Alexis Brewah in the 85
th minute.
Malia Allen recorded a save and gave up a goal in the first 45 minutes of the match while
Natalia Ochoa gave up a goal and recorded two saves in the final 45 minutes of action.
UPDATE ON THE WARRIORS: Stan State finished non-conference play with a 3-3-1 record. The Warriors have scored eight goals and have eight assists in their first seven matches of the season. Their defense has given up just eight goals.
Alexis Brewah has a team leading three goals with two assists and a team high eight points. Brewah along with
Amber Pon and
Kayla Perez each have scored the Warriors' game-winning goals.
Haylee Heffner and
Marivic Lek-Miro each have a goal and an assist.
Sunny Mancilla has two assists this season.
Malia Allen in four matches in goal has posted a 0.54 goals against average with five saves and an .833 saves percentage.
Natalia Ochoa has posted a 1.36 goals against average with 16 saves and a .696 saves percentage in seven matches in goal. Allen and Ochoa each have shared on two shutouts for the Warriors (0-0 with Saint Martin's and 1-0 victory over Chaminade).
HEAD COACH GABRIEL BOLTON: In his 19
th season at the helm of the Warriors, Bolton is 197-106-38. Last season, the Warriors went 10-4-4 overall and 7-2-2 in the CCAA and were CCAA co-regular season champions.
Alexis Brewah was the 2022 CCAA Newcomer of the Year and
Sabrina Cabrera was the CAA Midfielder of the Year. Brewah and Cabrera each were named to the First Team All-CCAA and the All-Region Team. Four Warriors were selected to the Honorable Mention Team in
Alexia Estrada,
Summer England,
Sunny Mancilla, and
Jocelyn Lopez. In 2013, Bolton was named the NSCAA West Region Coach of the Year and the CCAA Coach of the Year. He is the Warriors Women's Soccer All-Time Winningest Coach.
Bolton has guided the Warriors to nine postseason appearances, including four NCAA Tournaments and nine California Collegiate Athletic Association championship tournaments. He led the program to an unprecedented seven consecutive post-season appearances from 2010-16, including two CCAA Tournament titles and the 2014 NCAA West Region Championship.
PICKED TO WIN THE CCAA: Stan State women's soccer is picked to win the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) according to the 2023 CCAA Preseason Women's Soccer Poll that was released by the conference office today. The Warriors, under the direction of head coach
Gabriel Bolton, received four of the twelve first place votes.
CCAA STATS: Alexis Brewah is tied for fourth in goals scored (three), assists (two), and points (eight) in the recent CCAA statistical report. She is fifth in points per game (1.14), tied for sixth in goals per game (0.424), and tied for eighth in assists per game (0.286).
Sunny Mancilla is tied for fourth with two saves and tied for eighth with a .288 assists per game average.
Natalia Ochoa is tied for fifth with 16 saves, ninth with her 1.36 goals against average, and tenth with her 2.29 saves per game average.
UPDATE ON THE COUGARS: Cal State San Marcos enters its match on Friday with a 3-2-1 record. The Cougars are 1-2-1 in their last five matches since starting the season 2-0. They lost 2-1 to Biola and had a scoreless tie with Cal State East Bay last week. Hannah Ramos leads the Cougars with her two goals with one assist and team leading five points. Nani Kia'aina has dished out a team high three assists to go with her one goal. Lily Jensen and Brianna Delgadillo each have scored two goals for CSUSM. Kia'aina along with Gabby Marsh and Natalie Paulson each have the Cougars' game-winning goals. Allison Marcure has posted a 0.69 goals against average with 12 saves and a .750 saves percentage in six matches and 3.5 shutouts.
ALL-TIME SERIES: Stan State leads the all-time series 6-1-1 including winning the last four meetings between the two teams. The Warriors are 4-1 in the last five meetings including winning 2-0 in San Marcos on Sept. 25, 2022.

UPDATE ON THE PIONEERS: Cal State East Bay enters its Friday match at Chico State with a 3-1-2 record. The Pioneers went 0-1-1 last week with a 1-0 loss at Concordia and a scoreless tie with Cal State Marcos. Mika Sayfurahman, Gabby Rodil, and Maya Farkas each have a goal and an assist for three points to lead the way for the Pioneers this season. Jordan Smith has posted a 0.52 goals against average with 15 saves, .882 saves percentage, and 1.5 shutouts in five matches in goal for CSUEB. Jazlyn Castillo has a 0.93 goals against average with a .714 saves percentage, five saves and 1.5 shutouts in four matches.
ALL-TIME SERIES: Stan State leads the all-time series with the Pioneers 14-2-2 including going 1-0-1 against them last season. The two teams played a 1-1 draw in Hayward on Sept. 17, 2022.
