TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State will return to The Fitz this weekend for a pair of CCAA games this Thursday and Saturday, January 18 and 20. The Warriors will host Cal Poly Pomona this Thursday at 7:30pm and Cal State San Bernardino this Saturday at 3pm. This Thursday's contest will be Stan State Student Affairs and Turlock Rotary Night.
WARRIORS: Stan State is 5-10 overall and 2-7 in the CCAA. The Warriors are averaging 66.6 points per game and giving up 71.6 points per game. They are outrebounding their opponents 37.1 to 36.4. A pair of Warriors lead them in scoring in
Dontrell Hewlett (12.3 ppg) and
John Wade III (12.1 ppg). Wade leads the team with his 38 assists and 22 steals.
Daniel Ameyaw has blocked a team high 11 shots while leading the team with his 51% shooting for the field and 8.1 rebounding average.
Tony Singleton has made a team leading 41.5% of his attempts from beyond the arc and a team high 34 treys.
STAN STATE HEAD COACH PAUL TREVOR: Coach Trevor enters his seventh year as the head coach at Stan State and 14
th year overall coaching. He is 176-166 in his fourteen years including 69-80 on the sidelines in Turlock. During his 14-year coaching career, Trevor has coached 27 All-CCAA honorees including eight First Team selections and one CCAA Newcomer of the Year. Two players have been named to the preseason All-American Teams with one receiving All-American honors and three All-Region honors. In 2016-17 at SF State, he guided the Gators the NCAA Division II Tournament for the first time in 23 years and he was named the NABC West Region Co-Coach of the Year while the Gators were ranked No. 22 in the end of the season national NABC rankings.
NOR CAL TRIP : Stan State went 1-1 on its trip to Northern California. The Warriors lost 84-56 to then No. 15 Chico State in Chico and defeated Cal Poly Humboldt in Arcata 79-62.
John Wade III led the Warriors with his 13.5 scoring average, 50% shooting from beyond the arc, and five assists.
Daniel Ameyaw shot a team leading 54.5% from the field while
Tony Singleton made a team leading four of his attempts from beyond the arc. Stan State has a team was 15-for-44 from beyond the arc for a 34.1%.
ONE POSSESION GAMES: Of the Warriors' ten losses, four are by three-points or less. Two of their four victories have been by three-points in Fresno Pacific (56-53) and Dominican (63-60). Their four losses were to Point Loma (82-79 overtime), Cal State Dominguez Hills (65-63), Cal State Monterey Bay (63-62), and Sonoma State (61-59).
TRIO OF DOUBLE-DOUBLES: Daniel Ameyaw recorded his first double-double as a Warrior in Stan State's 82-77 victory over Western Oregon in Rohnert Park, Nov. 17. Ameyaw was four-for-seven from the field and two-for-three from the charity stripe. He grabbed four offensive and six defensive rebounds to go with his five assists, two steals, and one assist. His second double-double came in the Warriors' win over SF State in which he had 18 points and 12 rebounds. Ameyaw's third double-double came in the Warriors' 95-83 loss at Cal State Los Angeles. He scored 14 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.
NATIONALLY RANKED: Daniel Ameyaw is 48
th in the nation in defensive rebounds per game (5.27), 49
th in rebounds per game (8.1) and 50
th in total rebounds (122).
RANKED IN THE CCAA: Stan State is third in the CCAA in offensive rebounding (11.3) and three-point field goal percentage defense (31.2%). The Warriors are fourth in rebounding (37.1), fifth in steals (7.20), and sixth in defensive rebounding (25.7), free throw percentage (70.2%), and treys made per game (7.7).
John Wade III is fifth in assists/game (2.7), tied for seventh in steals per game (1.6), and ninth in assists (38) and steals (22).
Tony Singleton leads the CCAA in three-point field goal percentage (41.5%) and is second in treys (34) and treys made per game (2.4).
Daniel Ameyaw is tied for second in rebounding average (8.1) and total rebounds (122).
CAL POLY POMONA: The Broncos are 3-10 overall and 2-7 in the CCAA after going 1-1 last week at home with a 58-48 victory over Sonoma State and a 67-60 loss to Cal State San Marcos. Brandon Porter leads the team with his 13.9 scoring average, 23 steals, and 20 trey made. Cale Nelson is averaging a team high 5.4 rebounds per game to go with his 14 blocked shots. Michael Ofoegbu leads the team with his 55% shooting from the field. Bam Johnson has dished out a team high 28 assists while Jaden Winfield has connected on a team high 70% of his attempts from the line.
ALL-TIME SERIES: Cal Poly Pomona leads the all-time series 21-9, but Stan State has won the last three games in a row. The Warriors won 70-62 in Turlock on Jan. 14, 2023, and 70-67 in Pomona on Feb. 23, 2023, behind
Micah Boone's 18 points and six rebounds.
COYOTES: Cal State San Bernardino is 11-4 overall and 6-3 in the CCAA. The Coyotes are 6-4 in their last ten games including splitting last two games at home. They lost 84-77 to Cal State San Marcos and defeated Sonoma State 83-74. CSUSB is averaging 78.6 points per game while giving up 66.4 points per game. The Coyotes are outrebounding their opponents 40.3 to 31.8. Four players are averaging double digits in scoring in Christopher Mitchell (15.5 ppg), Robby Robinson (13.9 ppg), Sedrick Altman (12.9 ppg), and LeAndrew Knight (10.1 ppg). Robinson is averaging a team high 8.1 rebounds per game. Knight is shooting a tea high 63% from the field. Altman leads the team with his 15 blocked shots and 24 treys made. Evan Guillory has a team high 54 assists. Mitchell is shooting a team leading 52.5% from three-point land and Robinson leads the team with his 81.8% shooting from the line.
ALL-TIME SERIES: Cal State San Bernardino leads the all-time series 22-9 including winning five of the last six games. Stan State won 94-84 over the Coyotes on Feb. 10, 2023, in Turlock with
Jeremiah Jones scoring 10 points. CSUSB won 90-74 in San Bernardino on Feb. 25, 2023.
Isaiah Jones had seven points and Jones chipped in six points.
