Warriors to Begin Second Half of Conference Season in the Bay Area

TURLOCK, Calif.---  Stan State will return to the road as the Warriors will begin the second half of the conference season in the Bay Area.  They will be in San Francisco to face San Francisco State on Thursday, January 25 and in Hayward to face Cal State East Bay on Saturday, January 27.  Tip-off for both games is set for 7:30pm.  
 
WARRIORS:  Stan State is 5-12 overall and 2-9 in the CCAA heading into this week's games.  The Warriors are averaging 66.2 points per game while giving up 71.7 points per game.  They are being outrebounded 36.8 to 36.5.  John Wade III leads the way with his 12.3 scoring average, 42 assists, and 25 steals.  Dontrell Hewlett is right behind him with his 12.0 scoring average.  Daniel Ameyaw is averaging a team leading 8.1 rebounds per game while shooting a team high 50.4% from the field and blocking a team leading 13 shots.  Tony Singleton has made a team high 37 treys and connected on a team leading 40.2% of his attempts from beyond the arc.  Micah Boone leads the team with his 81.8% shooting from the line.  
 
STAN STATE HEAD COACH PAUL TREVOR: Coach Trevor enters his seventh year as the head coach at Stan State and 14th year overall coaching.  He is 176-168 in his fourteen years including 69-82 on the sidelines in Turlock.  During his 14-year coaching career, Trevor has coached 27 All-CCAA honorees including eight First Team selections and one CCAA Newcomer of the Year.  Two players have been named to the preseason All-American Teams with one receiving All-American honors and three All-Region honors.  In 2016-17 at SF State, he guided the Gators the NCAA Division II Tournament for the first time in 23 years and he was named the NABC West Region Co-Coach of the Year while the Gators were ranked  No. 22 in the end of the season national NABC rankings.  
 
HOMESTAND:  Stan State went 0-2 against Cal Poly Pomona (73-64) and Cal State San Bernardino (72-62) in its two-game home stand last weekend.  The Warriors averaged 63.0 points per game while gave up 72.5 points per game.  John Wade III and Dontrell Hewlett each averaged double digits in scoring at 13.0 and 10.0 points per game respectively.  Wade shot 55% from the field to go with his three steals. Tony Singleton had a team high five assists and Daniel Ameyaw averaged a team high 7.5 rebounds per game.  Micah Boone and Jeremiah Jones went a combined seven-for-seven from the charity stripe.  
 
ONE POSSESION GAMES:  Four of Stan State's losses have been by three points or less.  Two of their four victories have been by three-points in Fresno Pacific (56-53) and Dominican (63-60). Their four losses were to Point Loma (82-79 overtime), Cal State Dominguez Hills (65-63), Cal State Monterey Bay (63-62), and Sonoma State (61-59).  
 
TRIO OF DOUBLE-DOUBLES: Daniel Ameyaw recorded his first double-double as a Warrior in Stan State's 82-77 victory over Western Oregon in Rohnert Park, Nov. 17.  Ameyaw was four-for-seven from the field and two-for-three from the charity stripe.  He grabbed four offensive and six defensive rebounds to go with his five assists, two steals, and one assist. His second double-double came in the Warriors' win over SF State in which he had 18 points and 12 rebounds.  Ameyaw's third double-double came in the Warriors' 95-83 loss at Cal State Los Angeles.  He scored 14 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.  
 
NATIONALLY RANKED: Stan State is 43rd in the nation in three-point field goal percentage defense (31.2%).  Daniel Ameyaw is 49th in total rebounds (137) and 55th in rebounds per game (8.1).
 
RANKED IN THE CCAA:  Stan State is third in the CCAA in offensive rebounds per game (11.1), fourth in three-point field goal percentage defense (31.2%), tied for fourth in rebounding (36.5), fifth in free throw percentage (69.9%), sixth in steals per game (6.9), and treys made per game (7.4).
 
John Wade III is seventh in assists per game (2.6) and steals per game (1.6).  He is eighth in total assists (42) and total steals (25).  Tony Singleton leads the CCAA with his 40.2% shooting from beyond the arc while he is second in treys made per game (2.3) and total treys (37).  Daniel Ameyaw is second with 137 total rebounds and tied for third with his 8.1 rebounding average.  
 
SAN FRANCISCO STATE:   The Gators are 11-8 overall and 5-6 in the CCAA after winning four of their last five games.  They won both of their games on the road this weekend over Cal State San Marcos (69-67) and Sonoma State (64-50).  Two players are averaging double digits in Jailen Daniel-Dalton (12.5 ppg) and Tyjean Burrell (11.8 ppg).  Daniel-Dalton leads the team with his 34 assists, 45.5% shooting from the field, 44.3% shooting from beyond the arc, and 7.2 rebounding average.  CJ Bellamy has recorded a team high 17 steals while Burrell has made a team leading 35 treys and 81.5% of his attempts from the charity stripe.
 
LAST TIME:  Stan State defeated SF State on Dec. 2 in Turlock 70-65 behind Daniel Ameyaw's double-double performance of 18-points, 12-rebounds.  John Wade III and Dontrell Hewlett each chipped in 14 points.  The Warriors forced 18 turnovers by the Gators and held them to 41.7% shooting from the field including 30% from beyond the arc.  Seven of those 18 turnovers came from steals including three by Hewlett and two by Will Chavarin.         
 
ALL-TIME SERIES:  Stan State leads the all-time series 32-27 since 1993.  The Warriors last won in San Francisco on Dec. 15, 2019, 79-62.  
 
CAL STATE EAST BAY:  Cal State East Bay is 11-6 overall and 7-4 in the CCAA and have lost four of its last five games.  The Pioneers went 1-1 last week on the road losing 65-61 to Sonoma State and defeating Cal State San Marcos 68-65.  They are averaging 73.8 points per game while giving up 68.1 points per game.  CSUEB is outrebounding its opponents 36.3 to 36.1.  Four players are averaging double figures in scoring in Grady Lewis (15.0 ppg), Dimitrios Klonaras (14.8 ppg), Tyree Campbell (11.9 ppg), and Daeshawn Eaton (11.3 ppg).  Lewis is shooting a team best 71% from the field and leads the team with his 8.3 rebounding average while he is tied with Klonaras each with 17 blocked shots. Eaton leads the team with his 43 assists and Klonaras has a team high 34 steals.  
 
LAST TIME:  Cal State East Bay defeated the Warriors 86-76 on Nov. 30 in Turlock.  Dontrell Hewlett led the Warriors with 19 points.  John Wade III addled 15 points and four steals while Micah Boone scored 10 points.    
 
ALL-TIME SERIES:  Stan State leads the all0time series with the Pioneers 23-12 since 2008.  The Warriors have won four of the last six meetings.  The last Warrior victory in Hayward was on Dec. 22, 2019, a 59-58 Stan State win.
