TURLOCK, Calif.----  Former Stan State head men's basketball coach Larry Reynolds passed away this weekend after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Reynolds coached the Warriors from 2009-18.

Reynolds earned 121 wins in his nine seasons at Stan State and made a trip to the 2013-14 NCAA Division II Tournament after capturing the 2013-14 CCAA Men's Basketball Championship Tournament, where he picked up two victories. As his battle with Parkinson's continued, Stan State brought in current head coach Paul Trevor to help with the workload in the former's final two seasons at the helm.

"Coach Reynolds was an incredible mentor, friend and leader," said Stan State head men's basketball coach Paul Trevor.  "I learned so much from him on how to run a basketball program on and off the floor.  He taught me many life lessons that I will always be grateful for.  Thank you for everything Coach!"

He led the Warriors to a school record 23-win season in 2013-14. Reynolds' teams had appeared four times in the CCAA conference tournament. He coached the program's first NCAA Division II All-Americans and two first-team All-West Region honorees in Reggie Jones and Marcus Bell. Jones also became the first and only All-American in the program's history in Division II, receiving first team honors.

"Coach Reynolds was one of the nicest men I have been around during my time at Stanislaus State,' Stan State Director of Athletics Aaron Allaire.  "He was beloved by his players and fellow staff members, and his track record of success was simply amazing.  He will forever be a Warrior!"

A four-time CCAA Coach of the Year Award winner, Reynolds started his career as the associate head coach with his alma mater UC Riverside under John Masi from 1979 to 1995.  The Highlanders won eight CCAA titles and made the NCAA Tournament 10 times, including three Elite Eight appearances and a national runner-up in 1994. The Highlanders also reached the national title game in 1994. He would leave UCR to become the assistant coach at the University of San Francisco for two seasons.

After his stint at the Hilltop, Reynolds got his first head coaching gig at Cal State San Bernardino from 1997-2002.  Reynolds compiled an impressive 110-35 record with three CCAA championships and two regional titles in five seasons during his time with the Coyotes. In the 1998-99 season, Reynolds was named the NABC District Eight Coach of the Year after taking the Coyotes to a 23-8 record, an NCAA West Regional title and a national quarterfinal appearance.

Following his successful time in San Bernardino, Reynolds accepted the head coaching roll at Long Beach State. In his five seasons with The Beach, he guided the program to three straight postseason appearances, including a Big West Conference championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance in his final season. He was voted Big West Coach of the Year for the 2006-07 season after finishing 24-8.

"Coach Reynolds was a person that believed in me and trusted me," said former Cal State San Bernardino head men's basketball coach Jeff Oliver.  "I owe everything to that man.  He was a great mentor, a better coach, but more importantly one of the best human beings someone could ever encounter.  Everybody he touched will miss him immensely."

A former student-athlete for the UC Riverside men's basketball team, Reynolds was voted the conference's most valuable player during his time with the Highlanders. He went on to graduate from UC Riverside in 1976 with a degree in Urban Studies and then successfully achieved a master's degree in education from Azusa Pacific University in 1993.

A member of two Hall of Fames, Reynolds was voted into UC Riverside's Hall of Fame in 1996 and then into Cal State San Bernardino's.

The Celebration of Life for Coach Reynolds will be on Sunday, February 25 from 1-4pm at the Victoria Club in Riverside, Calif. If you are attending, the Reynolds Family is asking you to wear the school logo and or colors of where you worked with Reynolds.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to https://givemichaeljfox.org/421686/donation/checkout.
