TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State returns home to host Cal Poly Humboldt and No. 19 Chico State this Thursday and Saturday, February 15 and 17 at The Fitz. Thursday's game versus Cal Poly Humboldt is set for 7:30 pm in the Warriors' Annual Homecoming Game. Stan State will host No. 19 Chico State this Saturday at 3pm on Fan Appreciation Day.
STAN STATE SAAC BASIC NEEDS DRIVE THIS WEEK, FEB. 11-17
This week is the Annual Stan State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (
SAAC) Basic Needs Drive. The drive will run from Sunday, February 11th to Saturday, February 17th. All donations will go directly to the Warrior Food Pantry. Let's help them PACK THE PANTRY!
Items acceptable for donations include the following: 1.) Canned items (e.g. vegetables, beans, etc.), 2.) Bagged/Boxed Items (e.g. rice, pasta, etc.) and 3.) Hygiene products (e.g. deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, feminine products, etc.). All Items can be brought to the Athletic Office in The Fitzpatrick Arena or Student Services Room 136 Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. Warrior fans and fans of their opponents who bring a donation of three basic need items will be admitted to this week's respective home contest for FREE!!!
WARRIORS: Stan State is 6-17 overall and 3-14 in the CCAA heading into the last five games of the regular season. The Warriors are averaging 66.9 points per game while giving up 73.4 points per game. They are being outrebounded 37 to 35.6.
Dontrell Hewlett leads the Warriors with his 12.3 scoring average followed by
John Wade III at 11.9 points per game. Wade leads Stan State with his 59 assists and 32 steals. Leading the team with his 8.1 rebounding average, 50% shooting from the field, and 13 blocked shots is
Daniel Ameyaw.
Tony Singleton has made a team leading 44 treys and team high 38% shooting from three-point land.
Jonathan Tchengang leads the team with his 92.3% shooting from the line.
STAN STATE HEAD COACH PAUL TREVOR: Coach Trevor enters his seventh year as the head coach at Stan State and 14
th year overall coaching. He is 177-173 in his fourteen years including 70-87 on the sidelines in Turlock. During his 14-year coaching career, Trevor has coached 27 All-CCAA honorees including eight First Team selections and one CCAA Newcomer of the Year. Two players have been named to the preseason All-American Teams with one receiving All-American honors and three All-Region honors. In 2016-17 at SF State, he guided the Gators the NCAA Division II Tournament for the first time in 23 years and he was named the NABC West Region Co-Coach of the Year while the Gators were ranked No. 22 in the end of the season national NABC rankings.
ROAD TRIP: Stan State went 0-2 on the road this past weekend losing 75-58 to Sonoma State and 80-75 to Cal State San Marcos.
Dontrell Hewlett led the way with his 17.5 scoring average, six assists, and 61% shooting from the field.
Jeremiah Jones averaged 12.4 points per game, recorded a team leading three steals and was a perfect five-for-five from the line.
ONE POSSESSION GAMES: Four of Stan State's losses have been by three points or less. Two of their four victories have been by three-points in Fresno Pacific (56-53) and Dominican (63-60). Their four losses were to Point Loma (82-79 overtime), Cal State Dominguez Hills (65-63), Cal State Monterey Bay (63-62), and Sonoma State (61-59). Three of their last four games, the Warriors were in those games down the final minute as they lost both games by just five points in Cal State Los Angeles (88-83), Cal State Dominguez Hills (82-77), and Cal State San Marcos (80-75).
FOUR DOUBLE-DOUBLES: Daniel Ameyaw recorded his first double-double as a Warrior in Stan State's 82-77 victory over Western Oregon in Rohnert Park, Nov. 17. Ameyaw was four-for-seven from the field and two-for-three from the charity stripe. He grabbed four offensive and six defensive rebounds to go with his five assists, two steals, and one assist. His second double-double came in the Warriors' win over SF State in which he had 18 points and 12 rebounds. Ameyaw's third double-double came in the Warriors' 95-83 loss at Cal State Los Angeles. He scored 14 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. In this past Thursday's game against CSULA,
Mahda Fallay scored 11 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
HEWLETT: Hewlett averaged 17.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game in Stan State's two road games. He shot 61.9% from the field including 50% from three-point land while connecting on 78% of his attempts from beyond the arc. Hewlett started with 16 points at
Sonoma State. The junior transfer finished tying his season high with 19 points in the Warriors' heartbreaking loss at CSUSM.
RANKED IN THE CCAA: Stan State is fourth in the CCAA in free throw percentage (71.4%), fifth in offensive rebounding (10.7) and three-point field goal percentage defense (32.9%) while the Warriors are sixth in steals per game (6.91).
John Wade III is fifth in steals (32), tied for fifth in steals per game (1.5), and tied for eighth in assists per game (2.7).
Tony Singleton leads the CCAA with his 38% shooting from treys, second in 2.1 treys made per game, and third with 44 made treys.
CAL POLY HUMBOLDT: The Lumberjacks are 4-18 overall and 1-16 in the CCAA. They have lost their last five games in a row including both last weekend 61-56 to Cal State San Bernardino and 61-55 to Cal Poly Pomona. Humboldt is averaging 64.6 points per game while giving up 72.1 points per game. The 'Jacks are outrebounding their opponents 32.6 to 27.7. Rob Diaz leads the way with his 12.4 scoring average, 31 steals, 53 assists, 36.5% shooting from beyond the arc, and 45% shooting from the field. Brandon Bento-Jackson leads Humboldt with his 33 treys made. Kareem Clark is shooting a team high 46% from the field and 77% from the line.

NO. 19 CHICO STATE: The Wildcats are 17-5 overall and 12-5 in the CCAA. They had their five-game winning streak snapped in a 91-79 loss to Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday. Chico is averaging 77.5 points per game while giving up 68.6 points per game. The Wildcats are outrebounding their opponents 37.2 to 34.5. Four players are averaging double figures in Adam Afifi (13.4 ppg), Evan Oliver (13.0 ppg), Joshua Hamilton (12.0 ppg), and Jojo Murphy (10.5 ppg). Afifi leads the team with his 21 blocked shots, 6.1 rebounding average, and 81% shooting from the line. Hamilton has dished out a team high 74 assists and connected on a team leading 44.8% of his attempts from beyond the arc. Murphy has made a team high 41 treys and Oliver has recorded a team leading 32 steals.
LAST TIME: Chico State defeated the Warriors 84-56 on Jan. 11 in Chico behind Evan Oliver's 25 points off the bench.
