Warriors to Face CSUSB and Pomona and Final Road Trip of the Regular Season

TURLOCK, Calif.---  Stan State will return to Southern California for its final road trip of the 2023-24 regular season. The Warriors will face Cal State San Bernardino this Thursday, Feb. 22 at 7:30pm in San Bernardino.  They will travel to Pomona this Saturday, Feb. 24 for a 3pm scheduled tip-off with Cal Poly Pomona. 
 
WARRIORS:  Stan State is 7-18 overall and 4-15 in the CCAA after splitting its two games last week at home.  The Warriors are averaging 67.1 points per game while giving up 73.2 points per game.  They are being outrebounded 36.6 to 35.7.  Dontrell Hewlett leads the way with his 12.8 scoring average followed by John Wade III's 11.6 points per game average.  Wade leads the team with his 64 assists and 33 steals.  Daniel Ameyaw is averaging a team leading 8.1 rebounds per game to go with his 13 blocked shots and 50% shooting from the field. Tony Singleton has a made a team leading 46 treys and shooting a team high 38.3% from beyon the arc.  Jonathan Tchengang leads Stan State with his 93.8% shooting from the line.  
 
STAN STATE HEAD COACH PAUL TREVOR: Coach Trevor enters his seventh year as the head coach at Stan State and 14th year overall coaching.  He is 178-174 in his fourteen years including 71-88 on the sidelines in Turlock.  During his 14-year coaching career, Trevor has coached 27 All-CCAA honorees including eight First Team selections and one CCAA Newcomer of the Year.  Two players have been named to the preseason All-American Teams with one receiving All-American honors and three All-Region honors.  In 2016-17 at SF State, he guided the Gators the NCAA Division II Tournament for the first time in 23 years and he was named the NABC West Region Co-Coach of the Year while the Gators were ranked  No. 22 in the end of the season national NABC rankings.  
 
HOMECOMING WEEK:  The Warriors went 1-1 in their two-game home stand last week losing 72-65 to Cal Poly Humboldt and defeating No. 25 Chico State 73-69.  They averaged 69 points per game while gave up 70.5 points per game.  Stan State outrebounded its two opponents 37 to 32.  Dontrell Hewlett led the way with his 18.5 scoring average followed by Cam Walker (9.5 ppg), John Wade III (8.5 ppg), Jeremiah Jones (7.5 ppg), and Isaiah Jones (7.0 ppg).  Mahda Fallay and Jonathan Tchengang averaged a team leading 5.5 rebounds per game.  Walker and Wade each had five assists and Tony Singleton had three steals to lead the hosts.  Isaiah Jones connected on a team leading four treys and shot 44% from three-point land.  Hewlett finished the weekend shooting 58% from the field.  
 
ONE POSSESION GAMES:  Four of Stan State's losses have been by three points or less.  Two of their four victories have been by three-points in Fresno Pacific (56-53) and Dominican (63-60). Their four losses were to Point Loma (82-79 overtime), Cal State Dominguez Hills (65-63), Cal State Monterey Bay (63-62), and Sonoma State (61-59).  Three of their last four games, the Warriors were in those games down the final minute as they lost both games by just five points in Cal State Los Angeles (88-83), Cal State Dominguez Hills (82-77), and Cal State San Marcos (80-75). 
 
FIVE DOUBLE-DOUBLES: Daniel Ameyaw recorded his first double-double as a Warrior in Stan State's 82-77 victory over Western Oregon in Rohnert Park, Nov. 17.  Ameyaw was four-for-seven from the field and two-for-three from the charity stripe.  He grabbed four offensive and six defensive rebounds to go with his five assists, two steals, and one assist. His second double-double came in the Warriors' win over SF State in which he had 18 points and 12 rebounds.  Ameyaw's third double-double came in the Warriors' 95-83 loss at Cal State Los Angeles.  He scored 14 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.  Mahda Fallay recorded his first double-double as a Warrior with 11 points and 11 rebounds on Feb. 1 versus Cal State Los Angeles.  Dontrell Hewlett recorded his first double in a Warrior uniform with 22 points and 10 rebounds on Feb. 15 vs. Cal Poly Humboldt.  
 
10-0 RUN:  Stan State held No. 25 Chico State scoreless in the final 1:46 of its 73-69 come-from-behind win on Saturday. The Warriors finished the game on a 10-0 run keyed by Jeremiah Jones' old-fashioned three-point play with 24 seconds on the clock to give them the 71-79 lead.  Jonathan Tchengang made two free throws to seal the win  with eight seconds to go after grabbing a defensive rebound.  
 
RANKED IN THE CCAA:  Stan State is fourth in the CCAA in offensive rebounding (10.8) and free throw percentage (71.6%).  The Warriors are fifth in steals (7.04 per game) and three-point field goal percentage defense (33.2%).  Tony Singleton is second in the conference with his 38.3% shooting from beyond the arc, fourth with his 2.0 treys made per game, and tied for fourth with his 46 three-pointers made.  John Wade III is tied for eighth with his 1.4 steals per game average.  
 
CAL STATE SAN BERNARDINO:   The Coyotes are 19-6 overall and 14-5 in the CCAA.  They have won five of their last six games including going 1-1 last week on the road.  CSUSB defeated SF State 64-54 and lost 64-59 to Cal State East Bay on the road in the Bay Area.  The Coyotes are averaging 76.2 points per game while giving up 66.7 points per game.  They are outrebounding their opponents 40.3 to 31.8.  Four players are averaging double digits in scoring in Christopher Mitchell (16.2 ppg), Robby Robinson (14.2 ppg), Sedrick Altman (13.6 ppg), and LeAndrew Knight (10.2 ppg).  Robinson leads the team with his 8.7 rebounding average and 78% shooting from the line.  Evan Guillory has dished out a team high 71 assists.  Knight leads CSUSB with his 58% shooting from the field and his 38 steals.  Altman has made a team high 46 treys and Mitchell has connected on a team high 49% of his attempts from beyond the arc.   
 
LAST TIME:  CSUSB defeated the Warriors 72-62 on Jan. 20 in Turlock behind Mitchell's 31 points and 13 rebounds.  Dontrell Hewlett paced Stan State with his 15 points while John Wade III adding 10 points.  The Warriors had five blocked shots two each by Daniel Ameyaw and Hewlett while Tony Singleton had one.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES:  The Coyotes lead the all-time series 23-8 including winning eight of the last ten meetings.  The last Stan State victory in San Bernardino was 97-88 on Feb. 23, 2019, with Ty Davis leading the way with 22 points.   
 
CAL POLY POMONA:  The Broncos are 8-15 overall and 7-12 in the CCAA and have lost four of their last games.  They went 0-2 on the road in the Bay Area losing 78-65 to Cal State East Bay and 60-52 to San Francisco State.  Pomona is averaging 64.1 points per game while giving up 67.8 points per game.  The Broncos are outrebounding their opponents 36.2 to 35.0.  Brandon Porter leads the team with his 13.1 scoring average, 33 steals, and 39 treys.  Bam Johnson has dished out a team high 64 assists and Caleb Nelson is averaging a team leading 5.4 rebounds per game.  Michael Ofoegbu leads Pomona with his 57% shooting from the field and 17 blocked shots.    
 
LAST TIME:  Cal Poly Pomona defeated the Warriors 73-64 on Jan. 18 in Turlock behind Bam Johnson's 16 points off the bench.  John Wade III scored 16 points to lead the way for Stan State.  Daniel Ameyaw had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds and Tony Singleton chipped in 13 points.   
 
ALL-TIME SERIES:  The Broncos lead the all-time series with the Warriors 22-9, but Stan State has won three of the last five meetings.  The Warriors defeated Cal Poly Pomona 70-67 in Pomona last season on Feb. 23, 2023, behind Micah Boone's 18 points.
