Stan State to Host Otters on Senior Night and City of Turlock Night

TURLOCK, Calif.---  The Warriors will host Cal State Monterey Bay this Thursday, February 29 at 7:30pm on Senior/City of Turlock Night.  Prior to the game, the Warriors will recognize their two seniors in Noel Alexander Jr. and Isaiah Jones at The Fitz.  
 
WARRIORS:  Stan State is 7-20 overall and 4-17 in the CCAA after going 0-2 in the Inland Valley this weekend.  The Warriors are averaging 66.3 points per game while giving up 73.6 points per game.  They are being outrebounded 36.8 to 35.7.  Dontrell Hewlett and John Wade III lead the way with their 12.9 and 11.6 respective scoring averages. Daniel Ameyaw leads the team with his 8.1 rebounding average, 13 blocked shots and 50% shooting from the field.  Wade leads the Warriors with his 34 seals and 65 assists.  Tony Singleton has made a team high 47 treys and connected on a team leading 36.7% shooting from three-point land. Johnathan Tchengang leads the team with his 94.4% shooting from the line.      
 
STAN STATE HEAD COACH PAUL TREVOR: Coach Trevor enters his seventh year as the head coach at Stan State and 14th year overall coaching.  He is 178-176 in his fourteen years including 71-90 on the sidelines in Turlock.  During his 14-year coaching career, Trevor has coached 27 All-CCAA honorees including eight First Team selections and one CCAA Newcomer of the Year.  Two players have been named to the preseason All-American Teams with one receiving All-American honors and three All-Region honors.  In 2016-17 at SF State, he guided the Gators the NCAA Division II Tournament for the first time in 23 years and he was named the NABC West Region Co-Coach of the Year while the Gators were ranked  No. 22 in the end of the season national NABC rankings.  
 
LAST ROAD TRIP:  Stan State went 0-2 in its last road trip of the regular season this weekend.  The Warriors lost 93-50 to Cal State San Bernardino with John Wade III and Dontrell Hewlett each scoring 10 points.  Stan State lost 65-64 in the final minute at Cal Poly Pomona.  Dontrell Hewlett had 18 points and 11 rebounds with John Wade III chipping in 13 points and Cam Walker adding 11 points.  The Warriors looked like they won the game but their last shot was ruled no good as the buzzer sounded before it left the hands of the Warrior.
 
ONE POSSESION GAMES:  Five of Stan State's losses have been by three points or less.  Two of their four victories have been by three-points in Fresno Pacific (56-53) and Dominican (63-60). Their five losses were to Point Loma (82-79 overtime), Cal State Dominguez Hills (65-63), Cal State Monterey Bay (63-62), Sonoma State (61-59), and Cal Poly Pomona (65-64). Six of their last nine games have come down the final minutes Cal State Los Angeles (83-88), Cal State Dominguez Hills (77-82), Cal State San Marcos (75-80), Cal Poly Humboldt (65-72), Chico State (73-69), and Cal Poly Pomona (65-64). 
 
FIVE DOUBLE-DOUBLES: Daniel Ameyaw recorded his first double-double as a Warrior in Stan State's 82-77 victory over Western Oregon in Rohnert Park, Nov. 17.  Ameyaw was four-for-seven from the field and two-for-three from the charity stripe.  He grabbed four offensive and six defensive rebounds to go with his five assists, two steals, and one assist. His second double-double came in the Warriors' win over SF State in which he had 18 points and 12 rebounds.  Ameyaw's third double-double came in the Warriors' 95-83 loss at Cal State Los Angeles.  He scored 14 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.  Mahda Fallay recorded his first double-double as a Warrior with 11 points and 11 rebounds on Feb. 1 versus Cal State Los Angeles.  Dontrell Hewlett recorded his first double in a Warrior uniform with 22 points and 10 rebounds on Feb. 15 vs. Cal Poly Humboldt.  Hewlett recorded his second double-double at Pomona this Saturday with 18 points and 11 rebounds.  
 
RANKED IN THE CCAA:  Stan State is third in the CCAA in offensive rebounding (11.0) and fifth in free throw percentage (71.2%) and three-point field goal percentage defense (33.4%).  The Warriors are sixth in steals per game (7.04).  Tony Singleton is tied for fourth in treys made (1.9 per game) and eighth with his 47 treys made.  
 
CAL STATE MONTEREY BAY:  The Otters are 7-19 overall and 5-16 in the CCAA.  They have lost their last five games in a row including both games last week 72-63 to Cal Poly Pomona and 94-55 at CSU San Bernardino.  Three Otters are averaging double digits in scoring in Jailen Nelson (13.4 ppg), Charles Johnston (13.1 ppg), and Jaden Tengan (11.8 ppg).  Johnston leads the team with his 10.4 rebounding average, 60% shooting from the field, and 17 blocked shots.  Nelson has dished out a team high 91 assists and recorded a team leading 22 steals.  Joe Wall has made a team high 48 treys while Javon Johnson has connected on a team high 43% of his attempts from beyond the arc.  Tengan leads the team with his 89% shooting from the line. 
 
LAST TIME:  Cal State Monterey Bay defeated the Warriors 63-62 on New Year's Eve in Seaside.  Jailen Nelson made the winning free throw with one second left in regulation.  DontrelL Hewlett paced the Warriors with 15 points and four steals.  Stan State forced 20 turnovers by the Otters including 13 by steals.  Charles Johnston led the Otters with 19 points and 13 rebounds. 
 
ALL-TIME SERIES:  Cal State Monterey leads the all-time series with the Warriors 7-5 since 2013. Stan State last defeated CSUMB 93-85 in overtime on January 24, 2019 in Turlock behind Ty Davis' 21 points and 11 assist performance.
